According to Swift, after her deployment in January 2004, three sergeants began demanding sexual favors. One would show up drunk at her door in the middle of the night, demanding to have sex. “He’s just insane, mom,” Swift told her mother. “He’s an insane person, and I’m scared to death.”
Swift says that she had no choice but to have a relationship with one of the sergeants. “In a combat situation, your squad leader is deciding whether you live or die,” she explained to the (Eugene) Register-Guard. “If he wants you to run across a minefield, you run across a minefield.”
Swift reported the abuse to her unit’s equal opportunities officer, but nothing changed. Her unit returned to the U.S. in February 2005.

While I understand her resentment and hesitance to return, I can not believe she did not pursue the proper channels to alleviate the problem. EO officers rarely care due to the fact that is is just an additional duty and not their primary responsibility, especially in a combat zone. She should have used her First Sergeant and Commanders open door policies, and if they didn't take immediate action, use her Battalion Command Sergeant Major, or Battalion Commander's open door policy. No unit in the military is free from abusive scumbags, but all of them have at least one person in the chain of command that puts the soldiers first. She would have also had access to a chaplain of some sort , and even if she does not belong to a religion they would help her. There are SOOOO many options for resolving problems in the military that there is NO way that this would have gone un-punished if reported properly.

I'm throwing the BS flag on this one. There is no way that in a combat zone a NCO would "show up drunk at her door in the middle of the night". What door? What alcohol? IF this occured, it must have been in the rear, where she had plenty of options to report this and plenty of training on what to do. Example, she could have gone to the MPs.
That "your squad leader is deciding whether you live or die" is another BS flag. The squad leader is responsible for his squad (this includes his own butt) and will NOT arbitrarily get a soldier killed if he/she can avoid it.
That Swift reported the abuse to EO and nothing changed, I can believe, because there was probably no abuse, or she had no proof.
Sounds like a tractor full of BS to me.

Lana Sands- right on! I don't buy that portrayal of a "victim" she' s trying to fool everyone with; although a lot of people are falling to her rescue. Many women, who want leave out the military/ or want vengeance for whatever reason (some really ridiculous ones) throw the rape card in, b/c they know that's probably the only way they'll get attention and will grant them discharge from the military, which is sad b/c they fcuk up someone else's life and make the military look like irresponsible pigs. I know there have been and will prolly always be some type of sexual assault, it's inevitable. the ratio of guys to gals is 7-2, and some just can't fcuking keep their hands to themselves.

If what she says is true than she had a chain of command to address it with & an army of lawyers in theater to investigate. There are strongly established proceedures for inappropriate behavior & the military doesn't mess around. SO I got no sympathy for her not following the proceedures to deal with those problems.
That aside, they should send her to prison at the very least. However, I'm really wondering why they don't make some big primetime examples of some of these folks. A little cowardice int he face would go a long way toward stopping this crap in the future. Discipline is an important thing for soldiers, and these little bastards are pissing me off.

Where did you get your information?
As for support, she signed up for it. I bet she didn't complain about her military benefits before the war. Now that there is a war on, and she is a part of it, she wants nothing to do with it. I don't understand why these people sign up for the military, receive the training to kill, then turn around and say killing is wrong. WTF?
You go into the Army preparing for war. Preparing to kill your countries enemies. It's always been this way. It always will be.

That's the chick version of the 'race card'. If you don't want to play by the rules you claim that they're all against you. She needs to be in the stockade.
