I really hate it. Dogs should have boards taped around thier ear for weeks or months, It's just not right.

I think that the only dog that looks better with the ears cropped is the Doberman. Cropping is banned in England and many other places because it is cruel and unnecessary elective surgery and taping them for months to get them to stand up is a nightmare, leading to painful sores and a dog that sees you as a source of pain.
Tail docking is different - it should be done by someone very experienced when the pups are only a few days old - the tail bones are very soft, there is no bleeding and the pup barely notices it happen for a instant - then it's over.

The cropping of dogs' ears have nothing to do with what people like, or don't like. It was done to ACCENTUATE their line and form -- especially in show dogs. The Boxer has its tail and ears clipped because of their stance and form.
They are pedigree and not mutts.
The pure breeds, Great Danes, Boxers, etc. had their ears cropped for medical purposes. Keeps their ears cleaning.
AND, for auditory purposes. So they could HEAR better. Sounds can't penetrate a floppy ear as well as they can a cropped, erect ear.
Long ear, floppy ear dogs have floppy ears because they are TRACKERS and the scent of their prey goes on their ears and if they pick up another scent, they are off track.
It has NOTHING to do with what people like, or don't like, love, hate. It's the best use of the dog!
Why do people get their ***** pierced?
It's stupid and it causes pain.
So what's the point?
What's your opinion?

I like the look of a cropped ear on dogs that are meant to have their ears cropped. It used to serve a purpose. Dogs who were hunting dogs that actually took down their prey animals themselves like Great Danes, Wolfhounds and such would have their ears cropped so it was more difficult for the prey animals to get ahold or the ears and harm them. So it was a good thing at one point, now it's strictly cosmetic and to preserve the history (so to say) of the breed.
I personally, like I said before, like the look. But it is unneccesary now.

I crop the ears on my dogs. I have Dobermans and I like the way they stand. Yes I know it is pain full and I do feel bad. I make sure I have pain medication for them, and I believe they are comfortable. I respect your opinion, but until the laws are changed I will always crop their ears.

Love it on some dogs....Great Dane, Boxer, Male Schn.....I wish I had a penny for every time someone asked my if my 6 1/2 week old great dane was a pit or a large lab puppy....we had a licensed vet sedate him and crop his ears....also, in some dogs, it helps to keep them from getting ear infections from to much moisture in there ears

I raise miniature schnauzers. I have to crop their tails within 3 days of birth to be recognized by AKC. But I don't like to mess with the ears.

Hate it. I couldn't find a miniature schnauzer with natural ears locally. (so I drove 600 miles to get him) It is virtually impossible to find one without a cropped tail.

Hate it!! I consider it animal abuse and mutilation. It bothers me that people want to cut off parts of an animal to live up to some idiotic standard of how the animal should look. It should be stopped.
