They say homosexuality is a lifestyle "choice". It would only stand to reason that heterosexuality must also be a lifestyle "choice".

These are really great answers so far (34 at this point). I thought for sure the bible thumpers would get their undies in a knot over this or the gay rights activitsts would blast me over saying that either is a "choice". What surprises me most is the degree of tolerance in most of the responses. Tolerance...what a lovely concept. I love the guy who called me homophobe. I don't think I ever declared my orientaton.

No ... it's not a choice. It is a fact.
I believe homosexuality is a mental disorder due to childhood neglect or something dysfunctional in the household. People just deal with childhood abuse differently. Some turn out gay because of low self esteem, some have eating disorders, some commit suicide and the list goes on.
Plain and simple, a penis and a vagina was designed to fit together. The vagina naturally lubricates itself to make it easy for the penis to fit comfortably in place and there aren't any problems like what happens to the rectum which can get damaged from anal sex because the rectum was designed as just an opening to release human waist.
That is fact.

As heterosexuality is a mental disorder I'm not going to be feeling very well so I'll need to get some medication sorted first and then...

I'm going to dabble this weekend just to see if another lifestyle might be a better choice... but what if I get confused and every weekend I just flip-flop back and forth from heterosexual lifestyle no homosexual lifestyle...er oh bisexual oooh I'm so confused now and thats' just the lifestyle bit ...I haven't even touched on the sexual part.

I am going to choose to be gay and then I'm going to choose to be straight whenever because... well, we all can is what they say...I'll need two wardrobes for a start! and the meds to help me through the heterosexual mental disorder syndrome i'll be experiencing

ok well I guess I decided because that seem to be how I was raised. I never thought to question it but then I never had urges for the other. I knew a few guys who were and they wanted to try out of being curious or as what they told me. I never heard anyone personally say I have always felt this way it was always a choice they made and now I am older I know many and none of them believe they were born this way. sorry I have nothing against how other choose to live I wont judge you for your choices and best of wishes but no I have yet to see where a person is born to be gay. but that is only because of personal experiences

Good question. I don't think I made a choice to be hetero, I just am. However, isn't just as silly when gays & lesbians claim to have been so at five or six? I wasn't straight at five or six, I wasn't aware of sex at all. Yet there are all these claims of sexual preference that appear before the onset of secondary sex characteristics.

I guess we're both wrong on some issues. Doesn't really matter, if you and your partner are happy (regardless of sexuality) you're way ahead of the curve.

God made the choice for us! It is great that we don't have to stress over another decision in life. He allows us all to make choices and to suffer consequences that are written in the Bible. Homosexuality is the same as alcoholism, over eating, gambling, etc. They are all lifestyles that harm us spiritually and physically. We have the choice to do them or to ask God for strength and power to say NO! Only through God can you find the strength to keep yourself away from bad choices such as "lifestyle!"

Excellent point. I do not recall choosing to like men at any point in life, I'm just stuck with being attracted to them.

Ginger - Homosexuality a mental disorder?! Sadly, the world still has a long, long way to go with people still having attitudes like this.

I don't agree with the people that say it's a choice. I believe that attraction is a physical response and people can't choose how their body physically reacts. When you're at the doctor's and he hits your knee with that mallet you can't make your leg kick or not kick. It's a physical reaction, just like who you are attracted to. Some people might be able to deny and lie about it, but they can't make a "choice" to make it disappear.

LOL.... that's very good. Personally, I think that if hetrosexual is on one end of the line, and homosexual on the other, wouldn't that make bisexual in the middle and therefore the norm?

Why should I choose one over the other? Love the person, not the gender.

All you have to do is "LOOK AT THE PLUMBING!!!!!!!!!!" I mean, look at how men and women are built -- they were MADE for each other!!!!! This is so ridiculous to even need to be explained!!!!!!!!! Heterosexuality is not a choice because you were MADE to complement the opposite sex. Good night, the ignorance out there is mind-blowing!

Christian here.

I knew I was straight at age six when I saw Linda Carter on TV. Sexual orientation isn't a choice. When will the churches get it? Thank God for the UCC.
