Consider that when Christianity was first founded, it was in competition with several thousand pagan religions, many of which had very similiar doctrines, but there are at least two major doctrines that define what constitutes Idolatry, which Chrisitanity incorporated...anyone care to guess? sincerely

The Cross would be a form of idol worship. I don't believe that most folks truly worship the cross though. At least I hope that is not the case. I look back on how the cross has been defiled in many ways. There was an artist who would photograph crosses and Virgin Mary statues in buckets of urine. People got offended and voiced their opinions. There were no riots in the streets. Muslims went crazy upon the news of Qurans being desicrated or pictures of Mohammed being shown in cartoons. Jesus has been a regular "guest star" on South Park for years. I would like to think that, for the most part, Christians worship God and not the symbols.
The other might be the taking of Communion. I think people take that a bit too seriously. I've heard lengthy discussions on wine and bread and what types should be used and shoud a communal cup be used or individuals. My belief is that it could be Oreos and Dr Pepper. The words of institution are what we should be focusing on.

Christianity was and never will be Idolatry.True Christianity does not
worship Idols! Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Exo 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. The very FIRST COMMANDMENT forbids it.
Just because Religious ORGANIZATIONS say they are a Christian
Church does not make them one.You can pick up the news paper and
read more ungodly deeds done in the name OF RELIGION than you can count.
You can look at a man or woman or young adult that has truly put their FAITH in Jesus Christ and I guarantee you that they will be different people. They will start a life of change to be more like Jesus.
TRUE FAITH IN JESUS CHANGES LIVES FOR THE GOOD!!
In Christ in Love,

extremely likely. What should be a vote on competence has grew to grow to be right into a circus on faith and crackpot economics. it will be valuable to have a race in step with competence, notwithstanding the three maximum powerfuble applicants can hardly ever get pronounced. Jon Huntsman is Mormon, yet as a former governor and ambassador to Chine, he has some experience of a international worldview and a shown record of competence. Newt Gingrich isn't any doubt one in each of the most experienced and positively the neatest, yet his oft-married status does not sit nicely with the evangelicals both. or maybe Ron Paul himself has suggested it really is a h*ll of an election even as HE feels like the "useful" candidate! advantages on your journey!

That's why we had to come up with all the theology about trinity, and Jesus being God in the flesh, fully human, fully divine, etc...
However, one difference Christianity offered that pagan religions didn't, is the concept of grace. Which, unfortunately we seem to be losing right now to the fundamentalists....but I'm wandering...Good question and points though.

At the start the church itself, when you read the bible the constant theme was to be close to GOD. There was a reason Jesus was not welcomed by the religious leaders in his time. He knew they were about power to themselves.
2. the concept of rituals is the other. works without faith is dead.
I follow the road put forth and never fear as the fear of GOD lets me enjoy the true freedoms in this life and beyond.

Walk in most churches and the place is laden down with idols and graven images. We have made up so many things and worshiped and kissed idols. Isreal was punished for such things.

Imagery of Christ and Saints. Symbols like the Cross. Holidays like Christmas.

lbn,
you are being rather rude. this is not what G-d wants of us and it is not setting a good example. just b/c you reject christianity (as do I), doesn't mean you need to incite hatred (or bolster the beliefs of the amateurish "athiests" here.)
