In America there is no poverty. That was eradicated by LBJ's Great Society's quasi-Marxist welfare system. It "eliminated" poverty in American but it enslaved the black race 40 years and counting. The welfare "Plantation" is alive and well in the good ol' USA.

Now, sub-Sahara Africa? That's a different story but I have an answer. American should do NOTHING. The European Nations who raped Africa for a hundred and fifty years should dig into the BO soaked shirts and pull out some cash to fix the poverty they wrought on the peoples of Africa. Of course, Europe has shown little real interest in fixing their problems ... they have been quite happy to let America fix them.

This depends on where we're talking about eradicating poverty and which levels of poverty we're talking about. If you're talking about eradicating extreme poverty, for example in parts of sub-Saharan Africa, then things like debt cancellation by the WTO, direct foreign investment, investment into scientific research that will provide promising agricultural hybrids which can be grown in areas of sub-Saharan Africa and thus feed mass populations, investment into viable methods of disease prevention like anti-malaria drugs and bed nets. The point is to try and create ways that people and nations can actually reach the first rung on the ladder of development and they'll be able to climb up.
