I was told you shouldnt give a dog a name that starts with a "S" as it confuses them. The sound is too close to "sit', "stay", "stop", etc. I know there are lots of dogs with "S" names, but has anyone experienced that problem?

yah. Thats why, like, teach a dog only one command that starts with one letter. I taught Zoey Sit, and instead of shake, Howdey. She listens better. And some people teach there dog Spin, the dog spins around and around, I say twirl.

the main problem with an "S" name is that when you are giving your dog commands (e.g. sit, stay, stop) your tone of voice is different and the dog understands this. let's say you have a dog named Spot for example, and you two are playing and when you call his name "Spot!" he could either get confused about whether you are calling him or giving him a command. just name him/her something else and everything will be fine......... good luck

My dog growing up had a name that started with an "s" and she never got confused. Dog's are very smart animals. Whoever told you that must be crazy.

A solution to your problem if you are set in a "s" name is teach your dog the commands in another language, such a German. Dogs respond well to German commands because the language is so sharp.
