Tell me why people get bitchy and smart-assed when they are told the wait to see a doctor at a walk-in urgent care office will be approximately 2 hours...now this is after having pulled into a full parking lot and walking into a lobby where all chairs are full and people are standing up against the wall. Can you not assess the situation and figure out the time factor yourself? And why get mad at the staff, especially when you can obviously see them running around the office trying to get things done? Have any of you had to take care of 30 people, only having 1 doctor (which is all my office is required to have) and 2 other med. assistants to help you check in, triage, do procedures, and discharge those 30 people? Sorry, just tired of bitchy, whiney patients who don't need to be there anyway!!

When I go to my Dr's I always make sure I have about three hours clear...not because he is slow but for any emergancys and in case his office is full.

If you want everyone on earth to behave like a UN diplomat when they are going through extremely stressful cirsumstances, then you don't know people very well. For God's sake you're not selling televisions!

People like parents get upset because they are in charge of making sure that their child gets proper care and is not neglected or passed over during a time of great need. They are often not willing to trust total strangers like UC receptionists at a time like this.

You of all people should know that VERY OFTEN having a go--with-the-flow attitude in a hospital or clinic doesn't always get you the best care in that environment. You may wish or think it's not true but it CERTAINLY IS.

Man your office manager should have gone over this stuff with you during training. They must be really bad a training new people where you work, which might also be contributing to the probelm. Please, do us a favor and tell us where you work so we DON'T GO THERE!

I totally see where you are coming from. I work in a law firm and we don't have people walking in, but people always want their projects done first regardless of the scheduled priorities, time constraints etc. Then there are the people that don't work for the firm, but are involved in cases we are litigating and think their request should be attended to right away. There are also the attorneys that come from other firms to our office for meetings etc and think that we are supposed to attend to their needs such as "Do you have anything to snack on while I am here?" This isn't a freakin restaurant and if we did it is for the employees only.

Take it easy and not personal or you'll give yourself a heart attack. Good luck!

In the situation you describe, these people are self centered and couldn't care less about anyone else. The axis of the world should go through the top of their tiny little heads because they are the center of their world. How sad an existence is that?

People don't use common sense because no one likes to think anymore. Everyone's in such a hurry they go by feeling and not thinking a situation through.

Well maybe your office should hire more staff? What a novel idea, don't make people wait when they are sick or injured. As for whiney patients who don't need to be there, are you a doctor qualified to make that decision? And if you don't like your job, Einstein, get a new one. Why do people who hate their jobs continue working those jobs, and then complain? Have you thought of a career picking tomatoes, or maybe cleaning bathrooms? Sorry, just tired of hearing people who hate their jobs complain about their jobs, with no clue about how to do something different about something that bugs them.

I'm sorry that you had a bad day. As an ex-health care worker, I can relate. Just remember that when something (humans and animals) are in pain, they often snarl and snap at those that are trying to take care of them. I'm sure that they are grateful for the help (it's just buried deep down). As someone who uses "now care" facilities, I'd like to say thank you to you for working there and doing what you can to make patients comfortable.

If people are coming to urgent care, it usually means they aren't feeling well or are concerned about a family member who isn't feeling well. I guess when you're not at your best, sometimes it's easier than usual to take it out on others. I'm sorry that you feel picked on. I hope that this helped you to get it out of your system so you can now continue being the compassionate health-care worker I hope you are.

That's a sweeping statement, but I'll assume you just worded it that way because you're cranky.

There are always going to be rude people, but it seems to me that in your scenario, there was a room full of people who were already being patient, and one person who wasn't. Hmmm.

Note: Maybe you need to look for a different job that brings you more joy and less stress.

How urgent can it be if it takes two hours to be seen ? Change your program to "who cares"
We will see you when we get around to it.
Sound to me like more staff is needed.
