Be treated fairly on the job...where? Here in the U.S. where they are illegally. And possibly using a stolen Social Security Number to get that job? And if not, that means they are not paying taxes. Meanwhile they are sending their kids to our public schools, getting free health care (paid for by citizen taxes) and then sending the money they make back to Mexico. How is that fair to the citizen taxpayers who belong here? Who's being treated unfairly if a U.S. citizen cannot get a job paying a decent wage because 12 million illegal immigrants drive the job market down? Maybe you should write an essay about why the United States is coming under fire for trying to stop illegal entry into our country when there is no country in the world that will let you just waltz into their country and stay without going through the proper channels. So why are we taking the heat for trying to stop it? And why is the media not reporting on the average person who does not want amnesty given to 12 million people who are here illegally? THAT would make a good essay!

The immigrants should be encouraged to legally enter the country and gain the benefits in a legal and proper manner. As illegal immigrants they should have no rights as workers but still retain their basic human rights.
I read in a newspaper that somewhere in Florida has passed a law passing the onus to employers and property renters in that if they are found to have given a job or rented a property to an illegal immigrant then it is they - and not the immigrant - who face large fines. I believe this to be an excellent step forward.
I am not against freign nationals working in the country as long as they have a right to be there under the immigration rules. remember illegal immigrants are cheap labour - taking a lot of lower end jobs, shop work, restaurant work etc leaving little for those seeking employment or paying their way through college etc. - plus they are taking low end accommodation leaving it hard to find reasonable priced places to live. Additionally the nationalities often tend to 'ghetto-ise' or flock together for obvious reasons. This can cause social problems all round - house prices drop etc. Plus as illegals they may not be able to find work and may turn to other means to raise cash needed to live. In short illegal immigrants make it much harder for those foreigners who are legitimately in the country who may get tarred with the same brush.

Did you think of this topic yourself? I hope so, that would be better than knowing this type of thing is being taught to people on purpose. How about this idea: How can we make sure citizens are treated fairly on the job and in applying for jobs considering that most people would rather give chances to outsiders and then tell us we won't do the work. How would they know if we never get in the door to try?

illegals, while having basic 'human' rights, do not have ANY right to a job - they have the right to be arrested and deported two miles out to sea and dropped off or at least transported back across the border and/or if it is the second time that they are arrested, they have the right to enjoy a stint in a federal prison. The idea that a college would actually pose that question for a scholarship is frightening......which college is this????

It is illegal for illegal aliens to work at a job. Anyone who knows someone is working illegally should report them to ICE. If they want to be treated faily on the job the best solution is to go to their home country where they are allowed to work and then demand fair treatment from their own government. If people here illegally marched in the streets of their own countries and tried to change things for the better there then we'd all be better off.

Since you're in college you should be thinking.
Isn't fair treatment about enforcing the law? Equal rights for women, minorities, etc. No discrimination?
If you start with that basic premise then the only fair way to treat an illegal immigrant is to not discriminate on which laws to enforce and which to ignore. The only truly FAIR treatment is unbiased enforcement of our laws and deportation.

Send them back to Mexico/Cuba and have them go through the front door instead of the back door. Then we will treat them fairly and even pay them more! What gets me angry is Florida. Do you know that the Spanish people can even watch cable in my city, all in Spanish? There are other people from other countries that speak other languages here besides Spanish. However, there are no other language choices that can be accessed besides English and Spanish. The state government is going to even make voter registration cards in Spanish and they can even vote in Spanish now. This is what gets me angry and makes me not want to give respect to any of them, illegal or not. Bottom line, they need to learn and speak English. I think they would get great respect if they spoke our language and stopped making our government bend over for them! Our government officials will do anything for illegals and legals since it means votes to them!! They have our government by the balls.

Well first, since they're in the United States illegally, the first step to 'help them' on the job is for them to seek employment in the country they're actually from, and not in the United States. That will help them greatly, and cut back on the embarassing questions when the ICE shows up at their jobsite to take them away...

Treating them fairly on the job? You've got to be kidding. They are breaking the law to be here and breaking additional laws being employed here. The only thing to do with an illegal that has a job here is to arrest him and deport him. They are breaking the law (several laws) and have NO business here.

If someone comes here and acts like a law abiding citizen learns the language and pays for taxes ( i mean not getting on the system while having an undertable job) Then that should be put in affect
