We have VERY little money to work with and very little help scrounging it up. The best I could do ceremony wise would involve being in downtown by 0630 hrs. She's up for whatever. So, which is better, ceremony of justice of the peace and why?

My husband and I got married by a justice of the peace many years ago. We didn't want a big wedding so we didn't go into debt before our marriage got started. We have never regretted it and have been together almost 35 years.

In a situation with little money the justice of the peace is better since it is cheaper than a ceremony. With the ceremony, you have to pay for the place to get married at, pay for the person to do the ceremony, and then just because of tradition if friends and family attend, there is going to have to be some sort of reception. Besides with the ceremony there is more planning involved and its not so much about friends or family as it is about the two of you starting your life together. That is what marriage is about and if anybody has a problem with it, then they can pay for all the stuff. Good Luck.

Depending on your views, a JP will work just fine and can be a little easier to do financially. When I got married, I met with the JP before hand and went over the different aspects of the ceremony, and she had different samples of verses that we could use. I don't regret for a minute using a JP

if you have money for a ceremony, that is the best, (in my opinion) because a woman waits her whole life for her "special day," but if you can't afford a ceremony, then you can't afford a ceremony. you have your justice of the peace wedding and have a nice lunch at your home afterward and have a great time!!!

for me the justice of the peace is so impersonal. especially if this is your first marriage for either of youmake a memory youll both like not the akward feeling of walking through city hall in your suites with every looking at your cheap wedding ( i know that sounds harsh and im sorry but i have seen it and it is the first thing in my mind) a notary public or your local preist at your house or at the local park would be at the least more romantic i personally think all marrieges should start with the romantic aspect .
btw congrats to you and your future love/ life

think of a place that would be really special to her that is doable, if you can get a preacher there, let anybody that is TRULY an important part of your lives come if they can, go to a nice rest, afterwards or have a reception some time in the next few mths. after. this is about the 2 of you, it should be special, but special doesn't have to mean $$$$$. good luck!!
