There seems to be an awful lot of rudeness from all ages where people just storm through doors and let them swing shut regardless of anyone who may be coming behind them.

It's terrible, I know. People are so self involved and they have no consideration or thought for anyone around them. My grandfather is in a wheel chair, but we take him out to dinner a couple of times a week. You would be shocked at the number of times I have been alone with him and people see me struggling with a door and just walk on by and never offer to help. Or what's worse, they see me, then butt in front of me so they don't have to wait. I mean this teenager once literally climbed over my grandfather so he could get through the door first. I grabbed him by his collar pulled him back through the door and said, "What do you think you are doing? You don't have to help me, but you WILL wait until I get this 95 year old man in ahead of you." His parents thankfully were behind me and saw it and made him hold the door for me. At least some people still have manners.

Because most people expect it, and don't bother to thank the person. That's why I don't. Honestly...unless I can look the person in the eye and make them say thanks with the "stare". Otherwise, I don't, because people have been incredibly rude when I have done it out of niceness. One lady was talking to her friend and didn't even bother to acknowledge me.

Secondly, I am less apt to do it for white people (sorry, just being honest) because of the previous relationship between whites and blacks in America. It was one of those things that would get you beat up if you didn't do - it was like disrespecting white folk. Not saying that I HAVEN'T, I'm just much less inclined to.

Because often the line is too long for someone to stand around and hold the door for all of them, additionally there are slow fat people who can delay you too.

I only hold open the door for people with strollers or the handicapped. Those other lazy bones can do it for themselves.

I try to hold the door for people. And I thank them when they do the same for me.

Some people actually do, and many don't. Our society has gotten VERY rude. It seems as if it's happening everywhere. Even in Japan.

I hold doors open for people all the time, and I've found people generally hold them open for me.

It really is just self-centeredness. I've also noticed an increase in the number of people who will not acknowledge when they cut in your path. That drives me crazy!!

May be its because of more & more racism.

I always hold the door for all ages [especially elderly] & all races.

Because we've become a rude and lazy society.

People still do, just not like they used to. We (my husband and I) do it out of common courtesy.
