If we are taught to except others...?

why is it that we do not except or turn our backs on others because of different religious beliefs?

Alot of people are still in the 'Society Box'- where they are only kept in their comfort zone of what they were taught in thier life by their social means and their culture. I was like this too, but then I went to college, and took a -Diversity and Social Justice class- That will broaden views, take the class, teach other people what you have learned if only they are willing to listen. But just like society, it is thier choice which is sad.

fear that we may be wrong. most forget that being right does not mutually exclude other right answers. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

The bible offers three way to heaven I know of and possibly more that i have not learned yet.

1) be in direct linage to Abraham, keep the law including appropiate sacrifical attonement.

2) believe in Christ and accept the forgiveness that come from Christ's sacrifice. (depending interpretation may require confession, repentance and atonement or not)

3) never be exposed to the Good news (Gospel) and live the best life you can in relationship wiht the creator as you understand.

Great question! All the "great" religions ask their adherents to convert non-members. This inevitably leads to one helluva huge stand-off:

Christian: "You MUST convert to Christianity."
Moslem: "No, YOU must convert to Islam."

1300 years later they are still having this same conversation, each unable to budge. Frequently the parties end up resorting to some serious violence to move the other party either off their position or off the face of the earth.

It'd be better if religion A turned its back on religion B and vice versa instead of feeling like they need to convert the "infidels."

bcuz those we are supposed to accept go against everything you've been taught. which will cause the intelligent thinker to ask questions and think, "am i following the right path?" when that happens it crushed the world they were brought up learning was real and true. natural defense of this is to blow off the ideas and beliefs of others in order to make sure your ideas and beliefs are held in check. question you need to ask yourself is, how would you feel if you woke up tomorrow and everything you believed was true, actually wasn't and that you were told a lie? how would that make you feel?

I think you mean accept. I can accept a person and still disagree with their views. There's a difference between acceptance and disagreement.

I think that religious dogmas actually separates us but God desires that our "search for Him" (religion) would unite us in His love. The original religion was 'love' and clearly what we see today isn't love. So who is this God we confess to worship? I used to have race issues and issues with different religions but thanks be to God I have learned the greatest commandment which say that I am to LOVE my neighbour as myself.
