Some posters here feel that they're being discriminated against or something by people that simply want the law observed and enforced as it applies to immigration. What's your opinion, are we throwing the 'race card' here, has it been thrown for us in advance, what's REALLY going on, here?

Absolutely not. I don't care if you are white, black, brown or whatever, breaking the law earn you the right to be punished, not rewarded. As soon as you reward law breakers, you begin the meltdown of the system. Race is played up because of the sensitivity that we have developed towards it. There are many races coming across the border illegally and they are all treated the same. Just because 95% of them are Mexican Nationals does not create a race issue. The issue is with their own corrupt, inept government, and to a large extent their church. They have been a country as long as the US and have made little progress in righting the wrongs of the population of Mexico. It is criminal that Mexicans find no hope in staying in Mexico. Sweeping economic and social change needs to happen in Mexico, and it needs to happen soon or the entire country will collapse and we will be stuck with their population. Mexico is a beautiful country with a wealth of natural resources. With a good government and social programs to take care of it's indigenous population it could be a healthy country with happy citizens and a solid economy. But the Mexicans feel they have no power there so they look northward for their future. That is why there is so much animosity and discontent. The problem is south of the border and the solution is also south of the border.

It is ABSOLUTELY a race issue. There are almost a million folks from Canada living in the USA at any given moment, granted most of them don't sneak across the border, but then they don't have to.

The USA is facing an identity crisis much like Britain faced in the days when members of the Commonwealth were welcomed with open arms to settle in the UK. Because "things are changing" ie. white anglo saxons are bumping more and more into latinos, they don't like it or feel threatened because they don't understand the culture, and of course the media excels at whipping people into a frenzy, showing gang warfare etc. Lets face it, if these guys had regular jobs, they would have time to hang around in gangs.

Lets look at this realistically. Americans as a nation are aging. The "Anglo" population is not reproducing at a rate at which it can even replace those that are dying. There are many Anglos in the USA that will not consider taking jobs that Latinos will take, and the Latinos despite their bad portrayal in the media, are hard working, loving family folks that want to get ahead and experience the "American Dream".

We fear what we don't know, and that is the root of prejudice around the world. Becoming draconian about borders will not stem the flow of Latinos, it will just force them to become more creative.

I believe that the USA would enjoy an unprecidented boom if they were to allow 3 million immigrants a year, with a preference to our Latino brothers of this hemisphere. That many immigrants have to live in houses, buy furniture, cars, and if they were legal, would pay taxes to help drop the deficit and help fund social security for the Anglos that are, let's face it, dying off.

I am not a big fan of borders and consider myself a "citizen of the world". I know that it is fashionable to maintain a fortress-like attitude here in America, but what would it look like if the millions that passed through Ellis Island a hundred years ago, had been turned back? It was an age of unprecidented growth, and that was before the materialism of the last century took hold.

Lets start looking at the Latin population to the south as regular folks, just like you and me, some bad apples but mostly good, hard-working, lovely people who just like you and me want to have a shot at a life of plenty. There is lots here for many more, and the more that come the more there will be.

It is about the law, not about race. My grandparents came here legally, as refugees of WWII. My grandfather served the US Army. They earned the right to come here.

If congress decided that any illegal alien that does 4 years in the US military, can have citizenship, how many do you think would volunteer? Not very many!

Do you think the US border patrol is mean? What do you think happens to people from Belize, Nicaragua, or some other Latin country that get caught sneaking illegally into Mexico? Look it up sometime, and then tell me you still think the US border patrol is mean. While you are at it, see what happens to illegal aliens in China, Russia, or some other countries.

Just trot off to Europe, and get yourself caught with a fake passport. By comparison, the USA is kind to illegal aliens.

No not at all these people are coming to our states and working not paying taxes, expecting us to learn their Lang and I refuse to. If they want to be treated fairly well then file the correct paperwork and do things the right way. The race card is over played and it is getting sooooooooooooooooooooooo old. Not everybody is racist so people tend to stereo type all white people or Indian, etc...... What happened is in the past so let it go already.

No...it is a matter of legality, sovereignty and morality. The people who use the race card are careless and are diluting real claims and threats of racism. Some here actually have the nerve to justify the struggles they face as a result of their illegal action with the struggles black Americans faced. Pretty pathetic.

It's not a matter of race. If anyone were coming over the border illegially and not being documented I would have an issue with it...no matter their color, religion, sexual orientation, etc. I have to abide by the laws within the U.S., so why wouldn't I expect visitors to do the same?!?! Don't even get me started on this issue...GRRRR!!!!!!

To me, it has nothing to do with race. My son is half legal Mexican. Borders need to be sealed because they are duh, on the border of us and have a much better chance of coming here illegally. I have no problem with people moving here from other countries, but we need to have population control because we are becoming so overcrowded. Prices for everything have skyrocketed. People also need to assimilate (we're a melting pot not a salad bowl) just like they would if they moved somewhere else.

No I don't think it's a racially motivated issue I think it becomes racial when they resort to derogatory names and things like English only I don't know about other states but it is a prerequisite to learn another language before graduating high school . So how can it be English only.

No, it's not about race. Many people who are saying it's racist are trying to justify illegal aliens. I don't have a problem with immigration, as long as it's legal.

It has NOTHING to do with "race" thing!!! Although the illegals and their supporters, keep trying to make it into one!!!! I don't care what COUNTRY they are from, or what SKIN color they are!!! ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL!!!
It's just that the MAJORITY of illegals are from mexico!!!

This has to do with SECURING our borders, having an ORDERLY process, and BACKGROUND check to come here!!! It has to do with NOT breaking our laws!!! Showing RESPECT to this country AND it's citizens!!!

They get all whiney and start calling you "racist" or "bigot",when all we want to do is preserve the sovereignty of this country for OUR children, and grandchildren!!!! They would do the SAME THING of MILLIONS of Americans started moving into THEIR country, and THEY had to PAY for all of US!!!
