Do You Mind Someone Asking You About Your Belief in God?

Question

Would it cause offense if someone asked you if you believe in God? If a person wants to talk to you about Jesus Christ...is there a way you would be open to the discussion?

It depends on who's asking. If someone in a position of power over me (a teacher, my boss, a politician) asks that, I will definitely be offended! If the person is an equal, and they're willing to have an actual discussion and not just preach, then yes, I'm open to the discussion.

Because of my parents being jehovahs witnesses, I am asked the question a lot. I do not mind discussing God or any other religion for that matter. It is nice to know where your friends and coworkers stand on these issues. I am open to all relgious paths and faiths for discussion, however, do not try to convert me. I will find my own path.

Let me start by saying that I LOVE religious and spiritual debate. The problem is that most don't try to talk about God or Christ, they Preach about God and Christ. This doesn't allow for a dialog and instantly puts the questioned on the defense. Just my thoughts.

No it would not bother me if someone asked me about my beliefs in God and my relationship with him. Usually if asked, I just tell them what Christ has meant to me and how he has effected my life. I would be very open to the discussion of Christ.

If someone asks me: "do You believe in God?", my answer is "no!". Then I explain that I "KNOW" that there is something You can give a name like "God". But KNOWING something is stronger and greater then "believing". Don´t forget that believing also means "not being sure of!" When someone starts to talk to me about Jesus Christ however, I turn my back and leave! Enough fairy tales.

It's generally not a good idea. I would be annoyed if someone came up to me on the street and started asking me about my politcal beliefs as well.

For the most part, it's none of your business, and unless someone initiated the conversation with you, you don't have an open invitation to invade their space.

I don't mind at all. I teach apologetic classes. The Bible tells us to be ready to give an answer (defense) for the faith that is within us.

In my opinion, anyone who isn't ready or, at the very least, willing to do this doesn't have much of a belief in the first place.

I don't mind if they ask, and wish to have a discussion - but if they are just going to run on and on about their own belief without actually getting into a discussion then - what is the point?

I.e. If you are secure enough in your own faith and beliefs to actually question your own beliefs, then you can talk to me about it. But if you are just going to be bullheaded and refuse to think rationally...

My dad is a baptist, I am a Mormon. Two different beliefs obivously. It is hard sometimes to have talks with him about it, I try to listen to what he believes, but if I say what I believe he just tells me I am wrong. So, we don't talk about it too often.
It is hard not to get offended sometimes, depends on what the person says I guess. Usually I just have to repeat to myself one of our articles of faith "We claim the privelage in worshipping Almighty God and allow all men to worship how, where, or what they may."

not so much offensive but quite rude. bcuz if they ask you automatically assume they're jehovahs witnesses or some loser missionary looking for someone to talk to. either way, unless initiated, don't bother with it. it's an annoyance bcuz the one asking is hell bent on conversion, not hearing out the other persons side at all.
