i was baptized in to the Mormon church in Utah there is no way in heck i would ever consider polygamy . first of all i think Mormons are very head strong here if you don't live by the rules then you are not welcomed and i know that i am not an active Mormon but if i was i would leave the Mormon church if they welcomed that back i think it is not morally right one partner and only one partner for me thank
good question though

IF it was legal, AND the prophet said it was revealed to him that it should be practiced again, then yes. There would be a reason, not just "oh all these men want to have multiple wives" think about it, who wants REALLY to have more than one woman around???
It doesn't mean every single married man in the church would have to have more than one wife. keep in mind, very few members practiced polygamy in the early days of the church, it wasn't like a standard.
We do believe that in the Celestial Kingdom there will be "polygamy". My neighbor's mom died when we were young. They were sealed in the temple, had 2 children. He remarried and was sealed to his second wife, they have 3 children. Now, why would God make that man separate from one of his wives and children in the Celestial Kingdom? He wouldn't.
I would be fine with it if I knew it was God's will. Honestly.

i was mormon a very long time ago, but some of my family still is. i would never ever do polygamy or speak to anyone that is a polygamist. i know none of the mormons in my family would do it. i don't know anyone that would do it. the only reason people did it way back then is because supposively there were not enough men for the women or something like that. but since the population of the world has gone up so much, that would never ever happen. by the way, those polygamists in southern utah that say they're mormon really aren't. the mormon church has clearly banned them.

According to Joseph Smith, an angel came to him three times between the year of '34 and '42 and said I was to obey that principle [plural marriage] or he would slay me.
According to Brigham Young, he would gladly have traded places with the body in a hearse he saw passing down the street, than embrace this new doctrine.
If you believe these men, they did not want to be married to more than one woman.
I understand their concerns. One woman is certainly enough for any man.
If God spoke to Gordon B. Hinckley, and commanded that polygamy be reinstated and if I believed that God really had spoken to him, I would of course accept it.

Men in the church were never allowed to "take" multiple wives. At the time of the largest practice, only 5% of Mormans practiced polygamy. They were chosen by the church because they had the means (financialy and spiritually) to handle it. The women were usually chosen because they didn't have husbands or fathers (In those days woman had a difficult time finding income and supporting themselves)

First of all, I am a female member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have been my entire life. If God told President Hinckley that we were to practice polygyny again (we never practiced polygamy -- check the definitions!), I would not just take his word for it. I would pray for myself to see if that was what God wanted. We are taught in the Church to seek answers for yourself not just follow along blindly. :-) If I got the answer that it was God's will, then of course I would stay in the Church and would practice it. Wouldn't you do something God told you (directly) to do?

I am an active member of the LDS church. I believe Gordon B Hinkley is a prophet of God. As such, I would do whatever President Hinkley asked of me, taking it as the word of God. So yes, I would practice polygamy if God asked me to, though without that commandment, I have no desire to do so, I can barely handle the wife I have. (Just kidding I love her very much)

Since there is nothing in the bible against it ( except for church leaders) they would not have to have a word against it.
The issue I have is why christians even had issues with it, except for being illegal in states that had laws about it. It was practiced by the majority of Hewbrew leaders all though the bible, and is not spoken against anywhere.
I am not saying I want it to be legal, but as a Chrsitian I can't say our faith says it is not proper.

We don't practice it, we don't believe in it.
And our prophet doesn't just say to do something. God tells us what to do. He speaks to Gordon and tells him what He needs to reveal to us. God isn't like people. He doesn't say that we can't do something and then all of a sudden change His mind. His will is His will, now and forever.
By the way, for those of you who do believe in God and the Bible, but still criticize our beliefs even though we read the same Bible you do and worship the one true God just like you, I have this question:
Why is it so easy for you to believe that God chose prophets in the old days like Moses, Noah, and Elijah...yet you refuse to believe that He could choose prophets in our present day world? Do you honestly believe that He just gave up on us, and decided we have to fend for ourselves because He's not talking to us anymore...or what is it?
Just think about that.
