Would it insult the air hostess? Does it send the message that I don't trust the pilot?

I just don't want to drown, and that cushion could keep me afloat if I really need it!

Nah, it just shows that you are a major wuss. Somebody has to do it, might as well be you.

But if you hold the cushion, you won't have anything to sit on! The seat frame is rather uncomfortable!

And on most international flights the seat cushion isn't a flotation device anyway so the cabin staff are going to have an issue with your tearing the seat apart.

It wouldn't annoy me...but Ill be too busy thinking "shortly after take off...." over and over in my head like some news reel mantra of doom.
They could light up a poodle flambe next to me and I wouldnt notice.
Also..if your plane hits water..you will most likely die anyway...depending on the hieght from which you fall. Impact against water isn't much softer than concrete from 27,000 feet. Swimming is the last thing you should worry about.. You really should worry more about getting trampled on the way to an emergency exit more than anything else. I say dont hug the cushion....relax on the cushion..and drink heavily the whole trip.

If the person is bothered, then tell them to f*ck off, bcs they can't stop their fears... but really, what do the floatable cushions do? if the plane lands on water, water wont come inside.... u just need it to go outside... but if the plane sinks... what good does floaters do? the plane has a roof, where would u go when a plane is 100ft below water, and water is rising inside? I really think those cushions are just useless additions... unless during emergencies, they would open the roof.

I dont think anyone would notice. And it wont help you anyway, you'll be dead as soon as you hit the water, the cushions are just window dressing to make you feel better. At least you wont drown, you'll be dead from impact long before that would happen.

No it just shows that you are afraid to fly. I'm sure she doesn't think you don't trust the pilot she probably thinks your're afraid of heights. And if you took your neighbor's cushion then he would probably be mad and i don't think your're allowed too.

It just shows that you are afraid of flying.

And honestly, if anything were to happen, you would probably loose your grip on the cushion.

Well, I just endured a very turbulent flight, so I think it would've unnerved me quite a bit.

By the way, how'd your instant pudding turn out?
