How about...

A beautiful nature scene in the foreground with animals and/or people staring into the distance where a dark, dirty city looms and appears to be growing like a tumor towards them.

or

A more whimsical scene that combines nature AND civilization. Trees that are skyscrapers, racoons using roller blades, waterfalls cascading over low-rise buildings, etc.

or

A scene similar to that used in Lord of the Rings when they were entering the Fairy realm. That was quite beautiful.
