With persistence and determination, one can learn any language. Plus, how can you say it's "too hard" without whole-heartedly trying to learn it for a while?

Chinese is not exactly that difficult. The only problem I find it is that is to recognise the characters. It's no biggy if you can't read as speaking and understanding it is sufficient.

With today's globalisation, Mandarin (the Chinese language) has become a powerful communication tool. Since China declared an open door policy, many are taking up Mandarin in order to start a deal with China. Even CPA is going into the China market, having their courses done in Mandarin!

Oh yeah. I'm a Chinese myself and I don't really find it a snap. I can speak fluently and converse easily but I can only read limited characters. Haha...talk about embarassment being a Chinese. But it's pretty common in Malaysia. Not only we speak Mandarin, we have other dialects too like Cantonese, Hakka, Hokkien and so on.

So, why not let it in? If there are people interested, then the knowledge should be shared. Languages, after all, its a medium for people to communicate. Why limit ourselves to only a few when there's so much to learn? Hope those who take up Mandarin enjoy the language!

I'm studying Translation and Interpreting in 4 languages but know 5 in total. I'm now learning Italian. I guess it's really interesting to have Chinese in the school systems. The more the better. Less language barriers.

Well, since Mandarin Chinese is the most spoken language in the world, then why not?

English is probably the most difficult language to learn. Yeah, for us, it's a snap! But for others, it's not so easy.

I'd enroll in it, if it was offered. You gotta open your mind!

I think we need to take chinese or hindi because they are the people we're doing bussiness and commerce with and more Indians and Chinese are coming to America.

If you CAN'T deal with Chinese, it doesn't mean it shouldn't be taught. Not many will be interested anyway. It is great that they have the oportunity to learn.
