There is no such thing as a reliable body language/facial expression test for lying.
The closest you can get is 'concealing behaviour', if you notice it then you have to consider the context. Its usually exhibited when the other person feels uncomfortable and wants to avoid a subject; thats not the same thing as lying. They could be talking to you but thinking about a problem at home.
Covering behaviour is a bit more reliable; if the eyes are a little too wide, the eye contact a little too bold or even defiant; the phrases 'honestly', 'to be honest with you' and 'trust me'.
Looking up and to the right while trying to remember something is an indicator that there may be a problem; people look this way when they are trying to cover up, not dredge memory.
Verbally, too much information is an indicator of a problem; the lie sounds unrealistic to the liar, they know its not the truth. So to make it sound more convincing they add more detail; but overdo it.
Just insist they write down any claims made for a product as a spec sheet, that way you have some come back because they can be held liable for giving incorrect information.

I am a door to door salesman and it is a necessity!(lying)
Just as the Government does. If we were to tell the consumer the whole truth we wouldn't sell.There is always a pitfall with every product/service in the eye of the customer.Something they have heard about a certain product which they've heard from a friend of a friend!!
I sign people up to mobile phone contracts Now I would never lie about the cost or anything like that but pointing to a mast at the top of a hill and saying to the customer"look at our new mast,that makes your reception 100% round here now" has swung me a few deals in the past.The customer wants a bloody phone and all coverage is pretty much the same so a little bit of encouragement helps.
But remember a golden rule..You as a consumer have a 14 day cooling off period to check the facts of whatever he has told you.If your not happy then cancelOn the other hand Salesmen dont just sell anything.Normally the product/service is good or they wouldn't waste there ability/time on that product if not many people were buying it
So in a nutshell..the salesman is quite often lying but only because he's telling you what you want to hear so get him to write everything down in your language not jargon and check it out before your 14 days is over.Just out of curiosity could you please tell us why you ask this.What are you contemplating or what have you signed?Tell us with your Add Detail

The average person buying a car can't tell - these guys are professionals & are paid to get the sale at all costs.
A few tale-tale signs are - does he 'have to go and ask the manager' (usually rubbish as he already KNOWS the maximum and minimum rates), 'I can do you a special deal', 'you can only have it at this price if you sign today',
Go in fore-armed with a load of details, even get a sale brochure and a business card from a competitors garage, write the price YOU are willing to pay on the card & staple it to the cover. You are doing NOTHING illegal if he happens to surmise that that was a quote from the other company and not just a figure written on a handy piece of paper. ("Fifth Gear Tiff Nedell tip") Play them at their own game.

Going in with good information of your own is probably the best way. Some people are just great liars, or are nervous even when telling the truth, so looking for twitching, or not looking you in the eye may not help.
That said - an oft-cited rule-of-thumb: if they look right, they're remembering/telling the truth. If they look left, they're inventing. The chart in the citation is interesting - but remember that it's the subject's left or right, not yours... hard to understand from the citation.

He will be lying that is their job. Do not believe anything they say they are going to get commission on anything you buy. Don t buy at the door if you need anything look at the internet or even ask on yahoo answers and questions if anyone can recomend the product you want. See if you can cut the middleman out or check whether you can buy cheaper elsewhere.

You just don't listen what they say - I mean they tell you that it was one owner car - ask for any proof - like a history report or something else - if no proof, then just ignore it. They tell you that the car is in perfect shape - bring it to your mechanic and have him check it. I mean to sell a car you need to lie at least to some degree - don't take words for anything trust only facts.

I guess the context makes a difference, but I would say "be in control". Chose who you speak to ,never agree on the spot, always walk away and come back after you've considered it in your own time.If it's a good deal then they won't apply time pressure, they won't need to.
Check out the alternatives, and if in doubt leave it out.

You ask questions like the police do ask the same question twice or three times at diffrent points in the conversation but word it diffrent each time and see if you get the same answers

You cannot as they are much better liars than you are at perceiving lying!! For small items or jobs you may take pot luck but anything larger always get several quotes.
