I know this may be too late but I have found it to be easier to serve if you do it where you spray the bottom of the long pan with the butter spray not too much, then put your layer of noodles then your meat sauce and then your cheeses and repeat from noodles, meat sauce, cheese and end with noodles that you use a butter brush and rub olive oil on the top of the noodles so they don't get hard when baking. Good luck.

I always start with a layer of sauce to keep the noodles from sticking to the pan, then a layer of noodles, then meat and cheese, then sauce, meat and cheese again, continue until all is used, finish with a layer of cheese

I always start with the tomato sauce ,, It adds moisture and helps that the rest does not stick . Then noodles , cheese , tomato sauce , noodles , cheese and so on ending with sauce and cheese .. Here is a good tip no need to cook noodles just add extra sauce to that layer when pan is full cover with foil and bake for 1/2 the time you need to , uncover and finish baking . Also you can make the night before and refrigerate cover and cook when you get home . THE KEY HERE IS TO ADD EXTRA SAUCE SO THAT THE NOODLES HAVE ENOUGH MOISTURE TO GET FULL COOKED .

Checkout the Moosewood cookbook for a great Lasagne recipe. While it is a vegetarian version, you can add meat if you like.
The order is from bottom to top:
Tomato sauce
noodles
riccota cheese (some spinach mixed in with nutmeg, egg, etc)
Tom sauce
Mozzarella cheese (or your own mixture)
noodles
another layer of riccota mixture
Tom sauce
Last blast of mozzarella cheese
Last blast of Tom sauce
Fresh grated parmesan
Bon Apetite!

well, i make it with many layers so: i put sauce on the bottom (so it softens the noodles), noodles, sauce, cheese, noodles, sauce, cheese, and you can keep going in that order and just end it with cheese on the top! its really good.
