I''ve recently had a meeting with a Sgt. And well it was good, but I really don't like doing things under other people's terms. So if I join, I join no q's asked and it will be under my terms. If I don't same thing. Now he wants me to ask questions this Friday, and I was wondering what are your thoughts, what would you ask?

Good answers so far especially the 3rd one, yes he did talk about the benefits but it was just to help me on College he hardly ever mentioned anything about the military, just how they will help me for college. I do want to recline his offer, 'cause I still have one year left of high school and anything can happen with that year, let alone in one day. But he keeps insisting for me to join, even though he said that it's my choice, it's very hard to say no, when he keeps talking like that.

Basically what I'm trying to get from you guys, is how should I turn down his offer? What should I say?

Well tomorrow is the day, and well I really can't see myself in the army, I'm not that condition to be one, but I'll use it as a last resort or alternative and I know they're going to send me to Iraq, eventually.

Keep in mind that most of the benefits are the same throughout all branches of the military. Really it's a matter of taste and lifestyle. If you're gun-ho about getting tossed through **** and learning to shoot like a pro and really want to see what's going on in Iraq then talk to a USMC recruiter. If you're more interested in the technical training/job experience than Navy or Air Force is probably more appropriate if you dont want to see much/any time in Iraq. Army is kind of a mix of both depending on your job. I'm considering joining the military right now and I made sure I talked to a recruiter from each branch just so I knew I got all of my information.

Also check www.military.com for some comparisons and stuff.

Good luck getting in on "your terms," as that is a very difficult task in most branches. Keep your options open though and make sure you're sure about your decision.

Recruiters don't tell you all, they only give you the benefits of joining-but of course they would, they don't want to scare you shiitless etc. But, IMHO look into the Air Force, it's has better benefits and if you are the type that doesn't like to listen to authority, then don't bother, b/c it'll be filled with a lot of dictating and reprimanding if you don't follow the rules. Oh, and if you do go in, get your chin in, you're in for a rude wakening.

Just tell him you want to think about it and finish High School. Tell him if he keeps bugging you, you WON"T join at all. He should listen. I joined the army for the college money and never left, sometimes it sucks (christmas guarding an ammo storage facility) but sometimes it's cool (visiting Germany, Brazil, Chile). There's good and bad in everything.

ask if you win medals if you have to pay for them, ask if you have to pay for your own food ask if you have to go to iraq ask if you are still legally bound if you decide not to get on the bus. Don't trust the government, my ex-boyfriend joined a couple years ago, and just got back from Iraq. He is messed up in the head. He never cussed or drank before he went. Now he does. Don't trust President Bush.....he is a liar. YOU WILL HAVE TO GO TO IRAQ!!!!

Dude if you join the army, during the first 5 months you will be in training and you will not be in charge of ANY ASPECT of your life during training....no matter what job you pick....take it from me...once you get through those first 5 months, then it aint TOO bad....if you think 5 months is way too long then don't even think about signing up....

I heard the army can switch you jobs and put you were they need you. I would check in on that. See if you can get a sign on bonus. My husband went in the navy. They couldn't give him a sign on. But could give him extra money towards his collage. Make sure you are happy when signing the contract. Best of luck to you.
