In driving around, BMW drivers are conspicuously devoid of using their turn-signals. Much more so than Mercedes Benz, Lexus, Saab, Volvo or any other high-end automobile. Is there something ergonomically wrong with the vehicle, or just the attitude of the typical driver who would buy a BMW? Of course, there are exceptions, but the ratio is much higer with BMW drivers.

Hi Doug,
Yeah, I think you question is a great one.
Now don't get me wrong about this I think they're great cars. But...
You're right, their owners don't signal for a lane change or turn. I just take it for granted that when there's a BMW on the road to be extra defensive. I also think your suggestion of a ergonomic design flaw is very possible! On the rare occasion that I'm outside of my own car and crossing a street (in LA) it's become something of a standard joke between my friends and I to say "watch out for that Beemer!" (- too many times we actually DO have to retreat back to the curb from a passing BMW!) Is it their attitude? Who knows?
It's become "So L.A."
Keep up the good observations!

Because BMW drivers are jerks (most of them) the only time they use their blinkers is when they are broken down on the side of the road waiting for Road Side Assistance. They are the same people who drop their cars off for service and will call 50 times to know the status.

I've had 3 BMWs...I always use my turn-signal. I have no idea what you are talking about. This is ridiculous.

I have to bite my tongue not to say anything mean here... I've noticed this phenomenon with both BMW and Benz drivers. I figure that those auto makers must not give the cars a very large reservoir of "turn signal fluid." *saucy wink*

Excuse me! I am a BMW driver (I drive the biggest sedan on the road, a 740iL) and I always use the turn signals. I do agree that it is location-dependent (I live in Pennsylvania), and everyone here uses them, and if they don't, I usually honk them.

You noticed BMW drivers not using turn signals? I've noticed 90% of drivers not using them.

it isn't any longer purely courtesy, it is the regulation. you're meant to furnish a demonstration or you will get a cost ticket for "failure to signal." I hate it even as human beings do not provide a demonstration and purely sluggish way down then turn. Drives me loopy.
