Remember pain is always a warning sign. Is this cramping from a injury? How did you hurt it? Ibuprofen is good for pain or swelling, and heat is good for a cramp or a hurt muscle. When the muscle is hurt, right away, ice is best. After this a heating pad would relax and help the muscle. Just let it heal before forcing anything.

Not if you do it SLOWLY. Too fast could potentially cause tears in the muscles/tendons, but if you carefully straighten the leg slowly, the muscle will ease out safely.
