I am asking because I have never really dated and I am pretty shy. Is this normal?

Sure, why not? Who says you have to date? Do it when your ready, nothing written in stone.

Shy means that your a thinking type of person. Nothing wrong with that, at all. It is a very positive attribute because it gives others the feeling that your very stable and know yourself better than most do.

I've known people who are in their early 20's and late 30's who don't date either. They just have not found the right person who respects and values their sense of Trust and their sense of People and they tend to look for people who have values like that as well.

We just want to find someone who very much believes in the same values as we do. Trust, Honesty, Respect, Caring, Sharing, Appreciation, A Sense of Humor and Unconditional Love as well as having a open communication and being a genuine friend to us.

We don't ask for much, do we? Even though we might not conform to other people's perception of what age everyone should be doing the dating thing, we do stand out among the crowd and many people envy us for taking the time to find the right person to go out with too!

Absolutely! I was 21 before I had my first boyfriend. Went on one date with a guy that my friend set me up with at 20...didn't like the guy much. And I hated the dating scene cause I knew what I wanted, just had to wait for him to find me. And I was quiet, not shy. It was hard for me to open up too. But don't worry, it's a phase that you'll grow out of once you hit college, that did it for me.

In my opinion I think it's definitely normal. I'm almost 16 and have only gone on 2 or 3 dates. You'll get used to it, and when you're ready...it'll be easy.

Do what you want to do and dont be dictated by society anyway 17 is no age and you've got plenty of time to date and anything else that you want to do.

yea, its normal. but thats not the important part... the important part is are you ok with it. if you are, go out and keep doing what your doing, have fun and enjoy life! if not maybe have your friends introduce you to there friends. i know how it is to be shy, so having friends help out makes it alot easier.
