check out the zoombinis. also, my kids learn so much from Sid Meir's pirates (like our 13 year old knows how all the carribean islands were governed and by which countries, without even trying to know this!), Age of Empires, Civilization, Axis and Allies - a computer game where kids stare at a huge map of the world the whole time! - and other similar games. the 'learning' cds were always their least favorite, and tend to be more like quizzes, which, of course, aren't teaching, but testing.
