Both were undefeated, both were in the pound 4 pound top 5 list Chavez was Mexican who destroyed all 60 or something previous opponents, Camacho who is Rican was a showman and flamboyant and had a style similar to Ali he had very fast hands.

Thus you have a big fight

it was camacho's big mouth that made the fight, just like greg haugen's mouth made the fight vs. chavez. Neither fighter was on the level of chavez but they run their mouth off and bring in some fans to watch the fight

Hey Jane...
I think it was Chavez' workmanlike, hard hat, bring your lunchbucket to work type attitude vs. Camacho's clowning, showmanship, and his flair for wearing colorful trunks... sharing an ethnic background helped, much like Morales and Berrara, but I think it was the difference in personalities that made the fight an attraction.

Two great fighters in their weight class. Hector the flashy Muhamad Ali style and Julio the methodical boxer-puncher. The contrasting of these two styles ussually make for a good fight. Both fighters caught the imaginations of their fans because of the longevity of their careers and their sheer talent. Two of the all-time greats.
