What is the usable remains of a cigarette? Not the butt. Older term.?

It is something like dinch or dinge but can not find any references. Refering to when someone smokes a cigarette but does not finish the whole thing then comes back later to finish it. Question came up when talking about big cigars and not being able to finish it so some people try to clip it and save it to smoke again.

They are called "shorts" in institutions such as prisons and mental hospitals. "Save me shorts" means "Give me the second half of the cigarette."
