Actually, I prefer red potatoes in the microwave but any potato will do.
For plain and simple just put it in the microwave for about 3-5 minutes (if your microwave does not rotate, turn the potato every minute or so). When the time is up, see if a fork will go in easy, if it does, it's done otherwise put in in for another minute and check again.
After you do a few you will get to know how much time your microwave takes.
Now, if you want really yummy... Take your potato (one again, I prefer red), put it in a microwave safe bowl, put a good tablespoon or two of butter on top and then sprinkle with a little salt and garlic powder. Cook as above. Yum Yum!!!

Some microwaves have a setting for potatoes. If yours does, try this:
Put the potato in the microwave and close the door.
Push the button marked "potato." The display will probably light up "0." Use the keypad to punch in how many potatoes you're cooking.
Hit the "Start" button.
If you don't have a setting for potatoes, try about 2-3 minutes per potato: in other words, 4-6 minutes if you're cooking two at the same time, and so on.

Wash it well. Stab it with a fork 6-8 times. Otherwise, when you cook, it, it may explode. Then put it on a plate. Stick the plate in the microwave. Press the buttons to make the microwave cook on full power for about 6 minutes for a medium potato. When the 6 minutes are up, check to see if a fork goes in easily. Enjoy!

Wash your potato and stab holes in the flesh with a fork or knife...Then place it in a Ziploc "freezer" bag. The freezer bags are heavy enough to endure the heat without melting onto your potato or microwave. Put the potato in the bag and zip it 3/4 of the way shut place it in your microwave for 4 to 6 minutes depending on the size of your potato and the power of your microwave. It comes out nice and tender and not dried out like it would if you just put it straight in the microwave.

What I have been told is you don't even need plastic wrap. Coat the out side with butter or Pam Butter spray, poke holes in it with a fork and cook for 5 minutes, after that flip the potato and cook for anther five. The butter is just to help keep it moist.

Pierce the potatoe with a fork of knife tip prior to cooking (to prevent it from exploding). I don't wrap mine. Place on plate and cook 4 minutes, turn over and cook 2-4 minutes more, checking if it is soft (careful...hot!!)

Wash it, rub it with oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and put in microwave. Check for doneness by squeezing on the sides, carefully,. it may be hot so throw a towell over it first. Micros vary so try it with three minutes. Potatoes vary in size so you will have to add for the adjustment in size.
