I paid $4.99 for a pound of Ranier cherries. People would scream if the gas prices were that high. What gives?

I recently saw on the news that in Chelan, WA ,where the fruit comes from had a terrible hail storm season which damaged almost all crops, so the prices soar. I'm sure the cherries are not the only fruit that was hit.

People ARE screaming -- about the gas prices. And that's also why the cherries and everything is going way up...fuel prices.

Either grin and pay it; or get a taste for LOCAL produce straight from the grower.

I know - that drives me crazy!!!
It's supply and demand - cherries are big in the summer, and the rainiers I've only seen in the summer. Up here - they go as high as $8.99/lb!!!
I went to a farmers market and one of the merchants had both bing and rainier - but she mentioned that her crop wasn't all that great this summer - so I think the practice is to jack up the price on the scarce supply that they have.

Because the storms where the cherries were grown. The crops aren't as good, therefore the price goes up.

president bush = sh!tty economy = high prices = ridiculously expensive cherries

or its that cherries are SOOO good that chances are you just can't pass them up so perhaps thats why the "farmers union" ( haha FU ) decides that they can make cherries as expensive as they want. who knows.
