You pick a door on a game show out of three. One of which contains a car and the other two contain goats. The host then shows you a door with a goat behind it and asks if you want to switch what door you want. Should you switch or stay? Also, what are the chances you will get a car if you switch/stay?

I would switch because it would double my chances of winning the car because I had two out of three to pick a goat to start with.

It's not that complicated. The chances that you picked the car the first time are 1/3. If you stay, you are betting that your first choice was right and your chances of winning the car are 1/3, just like they were before a door was revealed. The chances that you didn't pick the car the first time are 2/3. If you switch, you are betting that your original chance was wrong (more likely) so your chances of winning are 2/3.

If it seems counter-intuitive, remember that the door that is revealed is not arbitrary. The host will always reveal a goat and never a car. Thus if you picked the car first, the host can reveal either of the other two doors, but if you picked a goat first, the host doesn't have a choice about which door to open.

Well in reading your question, you pick a door which will show you a goat or a car, then the host shows you another door. If the one you picked has the car, I would assume you keep it, if it doesn't have a car, switch and you win one.

So if your first pick is the car, your chances are 0% if you switch. If it's a goat, you have a 50% chance of winning the car.

If this makes any sense at all.......

I probably wouldn't switch if I knew of atleast 1 door with a goat behind it. Exclude that door and the chances become 50/50 that you may pick the car.

If you already know what is behind one of the doors, then the chances are 50/50 that you will get the car. Since you already have a goat, you can't get any worse. If you pick the door with the goat, you have a goat. But, if you pick the other door, you get a car.

Yeah I remember that game show too. The odds increase 50% if you switch the doors. It's not very complicated once you get your head around it. But you forget to mention that the door with the goat behind it is then closed, and the prizes are shuffled.

I want the door with the car behind it. Though nothing wrong with goats. But I live in city limits.
