I'm not just talking about religion but also, race, culture, customs and sexuality. Don't we all, as human beings, have the same basic wants, needs and desires? And what gives people the right to condemn those who don't have the same beliefs as they do?

Thank you for your thoughts and opinions. I think I need to clarify something for some of you. If you and I have an opposing opinion or belief, do either of us have the right to say that the other is wrong? I don't think we do. A different opinion or belief is just that, different.

Because they fear being different. If others believe the same things they do, they feel this validates their opinion. It doesn't. But our society has taught them that it does.

I should say that all HUMANs have some common basic wants, needs and desires. For example the need for love. It is within every human and u can't ignore it. So if these are the same ther should be one perfect religion and belief that can answer all these.

If you saw your child pick up a poison bar that looked like candy.Your
child thinks it is a candy bar it looks like a candy bar so it is a candy bar
to him but you know it is NOT CANDY.Any mother or daddy would stop
their child from eating it.If they Loved their baby.
The same thing happens when someone that is Born of God sees or
hears someone that thinks they know the truth when the devil has deceived them into believing a lie that will just like the candy bar end up
in death. You will warn them by telling them the truth. There is NO shaded area it is either the TRUTH or a LIE. JESUS told the TRUTH
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Think about it Molly. That is just the way the human mind works. Its sad but true.

Don't worry about it someday they will all start to see that acting this way does not any make sense. We are all here working on this same stuff. Just be happy you are starting to notice the insanity of this behavior pattern. Realize that this is debating about and dealing with peripheral issues. He said, she said, they said stuff. Thinking about these kinds of things is what keeps us confused and going in circles.

Look at the root cause of these types of behaviors; don’t try to rationalize them. They aren’t rational. Fear and insecurity cause these attitudes. These people respond the way they do because they are using a double standard. It is the only way they can deal with the conflict they are feeling. They are insecure because they are all too aware that their belief system is shaky and can’t stand up to a lot of scrutiny. Ones belief system is deeply tied to their vision of their reality. To be uncertain of it is to be uncertain of your own personal grip on reality. This is a scary position to be in.

Both sides are afraid of the scrutiny of the other because they are not that sure of their own beliefs. This amounts to thinking what if everything I think I know is wrong. The only real way out of this is to start respecting the opposing views and listening and trying to actually see what the other side is saying. Hardly anyone purposely argues for something they don’t believe in. If someone feels strongly about something it is because they see validity in it from their perspective. Usually the truth lies somewhere in the middle between to two opposing views. Seldom is one side completely right and the other completely wrong.

All we can do is try to change is the way we ourselves are responding. It is beyond our scope to effect significant change on others. Luckily this is all that is ask of us, that we learn to become this change we are hoping to see in the world. This is how we will eventually fix this problem you are speaking of. By changing ourselves, one of us at a time. Love and blessings Molly

Think about it, when you believe in something it usually is because you believe it is the truth, so if you accept other persons beliefs you are implying that your beliefs may be wrong and that does not make sense. That does not mean that you should not respect what other people think. You know it is alright to defend what you believe in.

It seems like for whatever reason - nature or nurture - some people just don't feel right if they're not in control of everything around them and nobody should be different.

Have you read your own question? There are people out there acting and believing differently than you. And it upsets you. You think they have no right to act that way... that they should act the way you think they should...

Aren't you being just like them?

sometimes it's not easy to find the truth. some people can talk and discuss about it but some they'll fight for it. it's up to you whether you want to find the truth or to stick to what you belief.
