forcefull physical contact between DIs and rectruits is against a whole bunch of regulations. You fiance needs to report the offenders to his commander, and if he does nothing, to the next higher commander.

I think he is BSing you a little. They may throw things but a lot of Drill Instructors have gotton in trouble as of late for physical abuse. When I went to Basic they were ALLOWED to do that. Trust me, it all ends when he graduates, unless of course he mouths of to an NCO (then it is even worse). Just tell him to do the right thing, be confident and motor on. It all ends.

Drill instructors are not allowed to hit a person in the army. They are doing something very wrong. I have it in writing where it says they will not.
I got the book in my lap.
"Will the Drill Sergeants hit my Soldier?
No. Soldiers are treated fairly, firmly and with dignity. Abuse of any kind is not tolerated. Drill Sergeants are selected from the best Soldiers in the Army and are highly qualified to train recruits."

There are a lot of peoples that want to cure their frustrations on others, and drill instructor is right job for that. I don't think that for making good soldier is necessary to abuse cadets. One thing is hard work and training, and other is molesting
Sure, the preparation for fighting must be adequate. It is not easy, and shouldn't be.

My brother in law is a drill sargeant and i know he is very tough on the guys but has never touched them, just like anywhere the are always bad apples and they are punished for it. If the drill sargeants are rougher on them thats probably because they are doing something they are not suppose to be or they just are not getting it. You have to remember these guys are trying to train them both mentally and physically. They are training everyone to go to war. You dont want them to not be prepaired for whatever comes thier way. Good luck to you and your fience.

I'm in the RAF.
When I was at RAF Halton (boot camp), my stuff was thrown by a tank of an NCO but I never was hit. However, my brother was in the British Army, and the NCO's would hand out a pasting to cocky little recruits around the back of the barrack blocks.

"The more we sweat in peace, the less we bleed in war."
Instructors are not supposed to hit recruits but when it comes time for Iraq or Afghanistan the extra toughening up will prove worth while. Consider it a "body hardening exercise".

I was in boot camp at Fort Benning, Georgia for combat basic training, and as tough as they were I saw not one instance of abuse. The drill sgts were very, very professional and took thier jobs at getting recruits ready for combat very seriously. They were, as I said very tough, but never abusive.

My son never got hit or had things thrown at him except for punch day in Officers Training School. It was teaching by living. The cadets would step in front of Sgt. & they would start to punch, you had to subdue them without punching, or throwing to ground. 3 got knocked out, several got big black eyes. My son got nailed in jaw & staggered back, the sgt moved in for kill. Before the 2nd time up, Sgt walked by & said do not step back they were ordered to move in for kill if anyone stepped back. His 2nd try he stepped forward & pinned his arms. They say most will die in hand to hand combat unless they can pin them.
His Sgts helped him, they did not throw things. maybe your fianance needs to change his behavior. My son is a Lt. & a Ranger. He did something right.
