Run the way you run. Do not worry about others. It helps if you imagine a straight line in front of you and run on that line.

1) Stand up straight, and keep your head up (good posture).
2) Keep your elbows bent at a 90 degree angle and swing them back and forth at your sides (don't swing your arms in front of your chest or stomach).
3) Try not to bounce up and down a lot, think of taking long, striding steps. Don't waste energy kicking your legs up behind you.
I'm sure there are people out there who think this way of running looks funny, and I don't know, maybe this is how you're running already. but my old track and cross country coaches taught me this way of running to get the most distance and speed per every ounce of energy, also to reduce impact and risk of injury, and that's really what's most important.
Best wishes.

i recommend you take a jog.
as you jog, start out walking fast... walk faster.... get just to the point where you have to run to increase your forward momentum.
now, focus on swinging your arms straight forward and backward, so they take a parallel course to your legs. ensure that you are bringing your knees up directly in front of you, as you would if you were standing still and bringing one knee straight up in front of you, up to waist level.
when you run, you can focus on a couple of things: keeping your stomach sucked in, maintaining proper posture (shoulders back, head straight above your body, lower back slightly arched rather than bowed) and it's especially useful to focus on your breathing.
of course, this is all from the p.o.v. that you can consciously decide to run differently. if you are most concerned with feeling comfortable while running the best thing to do is examine why you are so worried about how other people view you.
but, in case you decide you want to change for yourself, here are a coupla sites:

Stop worrying about how others think you look when you run. If it gets the job done, then it's OK. If you intend to run track or something, your coach will tell you if you have to make adjustments. In the meantime, while you are still growing, your gait will continue to change and develop.
If you are still self-conscioius, then you will just have to console yourself with the fact that you don't have to run very often.

Try to run in a straight line with one foot in front of the other pointing straight ahead. Don't let your feet point outward. If you have to at first, try having them pointed inward. Let the motion of you leg come somewhat from your hip and lift your knee only slightly with every stride. Keep your arms at your sides and make sure you keep them bent at 90 degrees at all times. then try swinging them from your oblique muscle to about the middle of your chest but keep them on your side.
Then when you feel you got that down start to make sure you're landing on your heel but don't bend your ankle to exxagerate or you may get injuries in your heel.

Ask your mom if you crawled and developed walking skills normally and at age-appropriate levels. If not, (don't laugh) start over. Also, get someone to videotape you running so you can analyze it. A different point of view may do wonders.

Paige, run like you want to, and do not pay attention to what others think, if that is possible for you.
