i was instructed by the hospital not to use soap of any kind, as it is too drying. all i was allowed to do was shower & let the incision be rinsed by the water. no scrubbing, no soap. as long as you are wearing loose fitting clothing and showering as often as possible (i could only manage once every other day with the new baby and all) you will keep the incision clean. antibacterial soap should not be used by anyone, as it is a) extremely drying, b) a potential hazard to the environment and most importantly c) something that has been sceintifically proven to clean only as well as regular soap, so not worth using.

I had two c-sections (last one 13 years ago) but the one thing that worked beautifully for me was "Bactine" antiseptic spray. It might sting for a few moments (I rarely ever found it painful), but because it is liquid, if you or your hubby (or an electrical fan) blows on it right away, it feels cool and comforting instead of stinging. It's an atiseptic/pain reliever, so it's not nearly as painful as antibacterial soap! It's not one of the cheaper antibacterials out there, but it really works. Make sure you get the SPRAY. Much happiness to you and your little one!

I just had surgery back in Feb that resulted in a C-section. Only use warm water. After about 1 wk use mild soap only when u are in the shower. That should help the stinging.

DO NOT USE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE>>>PLEASE! It is a for minor things but it also breaks down skin cells and prevent your incision from healing properly. you should ask your doctor but I bet He'll recomend mild soap and water.

I had 2 of those, and I just showered daily and let that soapy water on it... then dry it with the hair dryer on low.
Antibacterial is OK. Mine was not stingy it'll heal on it's own just make sure you keep it dry after every wash.

I used soapy warm water on mine that's what my doc recommended, and I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide let it breathe and it will heal. Don't use neosporin to make the healing faster it's not recomended and it stings.

You can use normal saline or pyodine. Thats what we use at the hospital to clean the C-section wound. It the soaps hurts then normal saline or simple boiled water can also be used.

I would definaltly call the dr. to ease your mind. they have on call staff. honestly they will tell you to probably go to the ER. you dont want have the infection spread, because you could end up in the hospital instead of with your new baby at home. Congrats!
