Not if you train them properly. Labs have a tendency to jump on people. Just have it trained, and it would be fine.

Well, I would say that that depends on how old is the Lab you're talking about and how big is the 11 year old girl you're talking about, AND, how outgoing or assertive or "take-charge" is the girl. The Labs are the most wonderful and playful dogs, and could only cause harm in their ignorance of perspective between their size and energy, and the child's size and energy. If you get a Lab pup of only a month or so of age, you've got a perfect match for them to grow up together, but, I must warn you, they will become literally inseparable after a few years, and they must be treated as twins then. You cannot treat the girl's Lab as a "dog" anymore. That "dog" will become her best friend for life, and her memories of that dog will be very endearing and enduring. It kind of reminds me of my German Shepherd I've had now for at least 8 years. He was given to us with a "Hollywood" name, but I call him "Mutt". I told him I didn't want him to get a "big head" just because of his breed and his Hollywood name. And as I was training him, or he was training me, I told him that if he didn't act right, I was going to "demote" him to "dog", so he'd better watch his "P's and Q's". We've been the closest buddies I could imagine. Oh, but that's digressing. Enjoy the Lab if you can find the right match between your 11 year old girl and the Lab. God Bless you.

No. it depends on how well behaved the dog is. If it is a kind and well tempered dog, there is absolutely no reason an 11 year old girl cant have that dog. My little sis iz 9 and we have 3 full grown German Shepard's and 3 full grown Siberian Huskies. Get a dog that is well behaved and trained. It doesnt matter what size.

I dont really want to put all labs in the same category, but no! Labs are sweet and they will love and protect her. Yeah, she might get a take slap every once in a while, but they are mostly kind and gentle. Great family dogs!

No, Labs are very gentle. It's even better if you can get a pup and have the 11 year old girl help to train it, then she can handle it properly.

I had a great dane at age 5, a german shepherd at age 7 and the love of my life, my black lab when I was 9 - 12 years old. So, from my personal experience, I'd say no.

My parents got a lab a few months before I was born and then when I was in kindergarten we got a second one. Neither one of them were any problem with me or other young kids. Labs are great family dogs, they are like gentle giants.

they are great but if you can't control it it can take over you. labs are very loving dogs but like all other dogs they need leadership. i have a lab and he gets along great with my 3 year old brother because i am in control. so if you are in control labs are great pes and they are never too big!

Noooooooooo.....we have a black lab, in a house with a 5yr, 3yr, and 4mo old. She is one of the most gentle and protective dogs I've ever known. You make a good choice a lab!
