That is a very difficult decision. I have had 2 that made it to 15. 15 is usually just about it for dogs. The questions you need to ask yourself are; what is her quality of life? Does she still find enjoyment in life or is she so miserable that her life is more pain than joy? Does she still eat well? Does she still play some? My Mugsy wore diapers for almost a year before I put him to sleep. Even though he became incontinent, he still was a happy dog. Talk to people that you know and trust that have had old dogs. This is going to be a rough time, but think things through examine it from the DOGS point of view and make the best decision. My heart goes out to you

Doing it at homestead is continuously a great difficulty to do, because he will be smooth there over the vet. What you want to do is locate an section vet that ought to do a house call. I surely have assisted a vet in a house call formerly, and that's surely fairly a lot less complicated than taking your canines to a vet. you won't be able to kill a canines with Ambien, do no longer even attempt. What maximum vets use is Beuthanasia, actually and overdose of barbituate. until eventually the letters DVM keep on inclusive of your call, you won't be able to euthanize a canines. actually what is going to ensue in a euthanasia is the vet will draw up a mixture of saline and beuthanasia, and gently, and that i do propose gently, insert the needle into the canines intraveneously even as a technician holds the arm. Then, the vet slowly inserts the mixture, and the canines will lose understanding and bypass interior of a count of seconds. The canines does no longer experience something yet a prick, and the sight of you'll make him ignore all of it. the in basic terms question isn't even if you're waiting, yet is he? putting him out of his misery is what you want to keep in techniques the following, no longer how a lot it pains you. He appears like he has loved his time the following, and preserving him round on your sake is causing him discomfort, something i'm certain you do not have in techniques. i lately had to assist placed down my surprising pal's canines down, and that's obviously a non violent experience, to ascertain each and every of the canines's discomfort fade away.

Her symptoms don't seem that bad that she needs to be put down. If the dog is suffering that is a different story. Just keep her comfortable and don't scold when she has the accidents as she can't help it. Just love her as much as you can for the time you have left with her.

That is a decision only you can make, we always seem to be a bit more humane with our dogs then we do with people - I had to put mine down, same reason - she was the best dog in the world to me - I have more now, but she's always in my heart
Little story - she was always afraid, shaking afraid of the vets office, that day she went to heaven, she was as calm as could be - it was if she knew and was saying it was ok - she died with dignity that day and a part of me died with her.
RIP Foxy Marie

poor doggy. my dog was 17 and had the same symptoms. she was also blind, and the only reason we didn't put her to rest was my stepmother; she had her since she graduated high school and was EXTREMELY attached, to the point of selfishness. i couldn't stand seeing my dog run into things, have s and seizures, and eat around her meds when i put them into her food. for her best interests and safety, please put her down. i say safety because (and this is totally true, i swear) my dad ally unchained my dog while we were camping and because of her handicaps fell into a river and we never saw her again. i would have preferred to give my pup one good last scratch behind the ears and let her slip away painlessly.

Put yourself in your dog's "fur" - how would you feel? It is a very hard choice I have had to make before.
There are large protective "piddle pads" available, you can put them under your dog where she sleeps or stays, so you don't have much to clean up. Like a Depends blanket.

Ask your vet about her quality of life. If she is not in pain, and is happy...let her go. If she is obviously having painful complications, or if there is some other reason that makes her blue, your vet may suggest humane euthenasia.

Poor baby , if she is in pain then it is probably best for her but if not I would just try to make things easier for her around the house and make her comfortable.
