cats are very independent and solo creatures. they like time to themselves, but he will want to spend time with you sooner or later because he will get lonely. Also cats are scared of strangers(your mom's friends). He will play with you soon.

My cat is terrified of new people. She will hide and not even come out for hours. Sometimes she will look at them and then run. She has to build up her courage I guess. It usually takes a lot of visits, plus she doesn't like loud people or ones who smoke. Not exactly sure why, but usually as soon as they leave she wants me to pet her. However, she has gotten mad at me and not let me pet her for days because I allowed those people into her house. He'll come around.

Dogs have owners..CATS HAVE STAFF..your cat will choose WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE & WHY she interacts..get used to it or get a DOG
