Buy the one that fits your budget, and is the size you desire. Don't worry so much about the brands--I have a no-name TV which works just fine.
Avoid the built-in DVD player for the following reasons:
1. If it breaks (and DVD, VCRs, etc break more than TVs), then you are stuck with the broken DVD player.
2. If you want something small, the DVD player will force you into something larger.
3. It's generally much less expensive to buy separate units than a combined TV and DVD player.

Personaly i like zenith tv's, they are the only ones that have the parts made in usa. The other ones are made in Mexico.(The parts) at least that was what i was told by the Zenith tv man. I've always had good results with them. But now a day Tv's are so much cheaper that it doesn't matter what brand as long as you get a good picture, and quality color on it. If they are taken care of, it should last a long time which ever kind you use. Go to Wal-Mart and get one, very reasonable. Hope this helps you.

If you're planning on staying with the older technology then I'd go with a Toshiba or Sony. If you're looking at LCD, then I'd go with Sharp since they have invested so much in R&D as well as plant and production equipment. Just keep in mind that the old 4:3 aspect ratio will be history by 2007 and everything will be 16:9 (widescreen).

Sony Wega LCD TV. The price is reasonable, the resolution is crisp and the features are great.
