Seperate them by color (darks, lights, whites) and by material if you have anything that will really shrink. I always washed mine in warm or hot (wait until you start getting spit up on them) with Ivory or Dreft soap.
Just an idea, even if you think you know the sex of the baby only wash the outfit to come home in, blankets, bedding, onesies and sleepware. Don't wash everything because you might want to take some back for girl/boy specific colors.

It is a good idea to seperate them.
When I washed my sons clothes I seperated them into his newborn clothes which were all light's/whites & his receiving blankets. I did normal blankets. His towels & washclohth's. Then his other clothes all in seperate loads. I know that I washed a fleece blanket with his newborn clothes ... and it got pilling all over it. Happened to another outfit too ...
have fun ... and congrats on the pregnancy ...

Wash them just like your clothes however you do it (lights/darks/colors/etc.). A few people recommended Dreft or other gentle detergents. I would recommend washing maybe 3 outfits in your normal detergent (All/Tide/whatever). See if that detergent bothers your baby. They get itchy or get a rash. If they do, go and by Dreft. But, most babies aren't that sensitive. We've only used Tide and Kirkland and he's been fine. All my friends use normal detergent as well. Don't believe the "Dreft" hype. Try your detergent first because Dreft is insanely expensive.

It would be a good idea to seperate them. Thats what I did. I also got a small zip up laundry bag that you can wash and dry and put all the socks in it and washed them that way. It is soooo easy to loose baby socks. have fun folding all those cute small clothes. I miss it!! can I come over and help LOL Just kidding. congrats and god bless.

Yes, they might run, so I'd wash them separately. Use a mild detergent like Ivory or Dreft, because the laundry detergent you use on your clothes could be harsh on the baby's skin. My son had extremely sensitive skin when he was born, and I had to wash his clothes by themselves in Ivory or Dreft for a long time. If I didn't or if he wore something straight from the store he broke out in rashes and awful red bumps.
Congrats on your new baby!!!

I'd seperate them the first few times. Just turn the dial to small load and go for it. Some things bleed really bad. It would be awful if 1 outfit ruined your baby's entire wardrobe!

You should read the labels, but as long as you are washing them on "warm" not "hot" store-bought clothes shouldn't bleed. Now, if someone made clothes for you, you might want to separate them if they have deep colors (red, dark blue).

You should seperate lights and darks. If you wash them in cold water they won't bleed. Don't let them lay in the wash very long after it stops.

If they are bright colors, I think I would separate them. If they are light pastels, it would be safe to wash them all together.
HINT: Buy one of those mesh laundry bags to wash socks, booties, hats, etc. in. Baby clothes are so small they have a tendency to get lost while washing/drying.
