I would talk to your vet but certainly, there are cough medicines on the market that you can give to dogs. You just need to adjust the dose accordingly. Realize though that dogs metabolize certain human medications differently and your vet should be your resource in dosing correctly.

My vet has prescribed Robitussin DM for my dogs with kennel cough. But, we knew it was kennel cough. Coughs in dogs could be signals of underlying serious medical conditions -- such as congestive heart failure, heartworms, renal failure, etc etc. It sounds like a vet visit is in order. Better safe than sorry!

Some info on human meds on dogs below. There is dosages to Robitussin DM at the bottom of this article. But please check with your vet first!!!

Why would you need to do that? A dog with a cough isn't the same as a person with the same affliction. You need to take him to the vet ASAP if he is coughing.

Besides, some cough syrup contains alcohol which you should *never* give to your dog, and others contain medications which could cause organ damage and/or failure in a dog...

yes, you can give your dogs Delsum. I would consult a vet for the exact dosage as per your animals weight, but that is what the vet has us give dogs that have mild cases of kennel cough. Just to give them some relief

I don't think so - plus it always varies on the size of the dog and if they have any medical conditions if they are going to be given any type of medication. It's best to phone the vet and ask them - there is no charge for the phone call. Plus if they dog really is sick maybe you should bring him/her in?

when dogs cough, there's a REASON - & the dog doesn't need cough meds, they need a vet's diagnosis.

go to the vet, find out what's up. can be simple & self-limiting [kennel-cough], can be complicated & lethal [left-side heart-failure].

Go!

Never give your pet human medicine. They are physically and chemically different than we are. What is helpful to us can be fatal for them. Call a vet.
