I want to know what peoples opinions are about it and if some people have actually gotten it done. Is it an easy way out for people who cant seem to lose weight? or Is for their medical needs?

I know four people personally who have had it done. All results were different, it depends on individual physiology.

I do know all had a greater problem afterwards....skin, and lots of it!.
GP is covered under insurance, and you can handle the pain. Skin removal is a different story, it is considered cosmetic and so it's not covered by anyone, and the pain, well, I know one who had to take the morphine drip home with her for two weeks, and then that itself can make you ill.

Personal opinion? I'd say if you are willing to go through all that, then go for it. It's still better than being a walking heart attack timebomb....

First answerer?~ There are more and more cases of obesity that have nothing to do with discipline. I have "Adrenal Fatigue" (Stress Burnout) and so my body refuses to burn fat. I have packed on 50 lbs, and that is even with eating healthy and staying away from fat and sugar!
I have been to a personal trainer, in a gym, 2hrs/day, 5 days /wk., 1hr.aerobics, 1hr. freeweights,w/15min. core training. After 12 weeks I lost only 1lb, and 1% bodyfat. My trainer gave me a discount because I worked harder that anyone else in the gym, and he was even at a loss.

It is definitely not easy. My mother got one almost two years ago, and she is still somewhat sick. She got it done because she gained quite a bit of weight, which made exercise difficult, she gained more weight, exercise became impossible, health declined very, very quickly. It was a vicious cycle. There was nothing left for her but this surgery. And it worked, but she was still very ill. It took over a year for her energy to return to normal.

I would definitely say that a person should try dieting and exercising first, before considering bypass surgery. It's a painful process, and doing all you can before surgery can only help you. But if dieting and exercise can't help, and/or you've got a medical issue, the surgery may be the best option.

Again, Gastric By-pass Surgery is anything but easy on the person receiving it.

From what I understand, it's sort of a "last resort" procedure. Those who medically & physically can't seem to lose weight have this procedure so they can live healthier lives.

Of course, those who are overweight & rich, or overweight& can get TLC to do a special on them, can have it done easily (and without too much of a hit to the pocketbooks), even if they COULD lose the weight themselves.

I've got some "extra baggage", but I don't qualify for that procedure. You have to be very heavy before this can be performed. If I ever got to the point where I needed it (I REALLY hope not), I would have to consider doing it, since it's somewhat safer than it used to be. Although, I';ve heard the horror stories, so a person would really have to 'weigh' their options (pun possibly intended).

Surgery for losing weight in very over weight individuals is becoming common and in most cases successful. By pass or gastric stapling?

It is similar to a question should you have a cardiac bypass. It is a very serious operation with some nasty side effects, like constant "trots".

Do your best to keep very busy so you never have time to eat, and when you eat ask SOMEONE ELSE to serve you a measured portion. Leave the table and go for a 10 minutes walk as soon as you finished your portion. Don't talk don't socialize just walk - and when you return stay away from food - again get busy.

Keep Smiln'

Stupid. That's where they take out most of their stomach taken out right? So that it holds something like 10 ounces?

I suppose it would be effective, eat a cookie and feel full but I can't see that as being a healthy way of loosing weight.

I think it is a good thing. Some people just don't have the discipline to lose weight.

Not easy, could be very dangerous. However, it can help morbidly obese people to lose weight.
