"Toyota" happens to be the name of the family who makes
the cars. They were and are renowned in the textiles industry under the name "Toyoda" - different spelling, same family.
Hyundai is owned by Dae Woo steel, which is owned by
Dae Woo Bank, which is owned by Mitsubishi of Japan.
Hyundai owns Kia, and the cars are same. Remember that when you're looking around at korean cars

If I'm not mistaken, Toyota and Honda are the last names of the people who started those companies.

Like Ford in the US.
