Hasn't the government realized that a fence would cost 2.2 billion dollars, that means $3 million per mile. A fence will be destroyed in a few months, believe you me. Why not investing those 2.2 millions in companies that will open in mexico and employ mexicans in their own country so they will grow and develop as a country inside their own country. By doing that the american government would be investing in a country that has all the resources needed to be a 1st world country, at the same time, there would be a serious decrease in immigration and it would be a benefit for both countries. Mexico would fight poverty (apparently its biggest problem) and USA would fight immigrants (apparently its biggest problem).

Why not hire the illegal immigrants to build the fence at mexican wages.
Only let them build it from the other side of the border.

Yes, a fence is a large investment. Not only fiscally but politically. It's sending a message, loud and clear: Illegal immigrants are not wanted in this country. And trust me, a $3 million dollar fence will not be destroyed in a few months. We're not talking a chain-link backyard fence with some barbed-wire on the top.
A fence will not make the border impenetrable. But it will stop the casual crosser, and prevent cars and trucks from crossing at ease. The fence will target illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and border security.
By world standards, Mexico is not that poor of a country. For decades other countries, especially the United States, invested heavily in Mexico. Since the 1980s however, Mexico has seen little economic growth. This is due primarily to bad government. Mexican government does little in the way of education. Industry is heavily regulated and even new foreign investments, like you suggest, are discouraged. In some huge money-making, job-creating industries, such as oil, they are illegal!
Mexico has to fix its problems. Its most ambitious and educated head north to the United States instead of staying and helping their country and their families. And why shouldn't they? It's easy enough to leave. Perhaps a fence will encourage or even force some of these people to stay behind and put their talents to better use. A fence is just as much a solution for the U.S. as it is for Mexico. It won't and it can't solve everything, but it's a start in the right direction. It's construction is a step in the right direction.

California alone pays BILLIONS per year to support illegal immigrants. The fence will be a major savings.

So long as we have universal education, and Mexico doesn't, they will come here to make us pay to educate their children at the expense of our own children's education. We need a fence because it will remain when border patrol staffing is ultimately reduced to fund pet projects. Also, fences work. We already have some, and it is a very clear result.

Mexico has a lot of money. They don't want to spend it on their poor. So long as we take care of their problem, they don't have to.

Why do you want us to be codependant?

We tried the job thing back in the 1980's.Remember N.A.F.T.A. and C.A.F.T.A. Oh about a year or so ago,the supreme court said Imminate Domain was ok.Now (Lou Dobbs reported on this Fox News reported on this) there is going to be a 10 lane hiway from Mexico thru the U.S. and in to Canada. We now see why the supreme court passed imminate domain. And how can you trust a supreme court when, half of the judges come from Harvard, and the other half come from Yale. The last two judges appointed by Bush(Roberts and Alito) both from Yale.Look up Illuminati on the web.

The fence is not for illegal Mexicans, but for any illegals, including Islamic fascist terrorists. The reason we need a fence is for its ability to serve as a physical barrier. Will it work? Who knows? The secondary reason is that it makes it seem the government is doing something when it is doing next to nothing. It wants you to forget (if you know it at all) that our federal government rarely enforces its own laws--except the occasional drug statute and the occasional perjury case involving steroid-injecting baseball players from San Francisco.

but people would still try to get into our country because of the freedoms and even better jobs. No matter what kind of company would open in Mexico, it would still not be as good as the work here. So I think it's a better idea than just letting people illegally come into our country, especially the ones who won't even try to learn English.

hasn't America already shipped jobs to Mexico namely the automotive industry as well as tire plants many jobs are sent over to Mexico, Mexico will never change regardless of how many jobs you send or how much money you invest nothing will ever be enough. The best thing American can do is send the Military to cover the border and stop this maddness.

How about just sending all the immigrants back to their own countries and telling them to fix their own country and invest the U.S's money in the U.S where we need to fight poverty before we have to go and be illegal immigrants in Mexico!

Your figures are wrong. Very wrong-one look at web will tell you that. Study all the studies. Are you sprouting that because you don't know-or because you would rather lie?

The average wage for skilled and unskilled farm workers is about $10 an hour, said Austin Perez, a labor specialist with the federation. The average wage is $9 for other trades.
