I want to propose to my boyfriend in about a year, but I can't figure out how. The place we met wasn't romantic, our first date was a Halloween party (which was fun, but not romantic), and I just don't know a good place to do it.

First of all, congratulations on finding someone so great it makes you want to propose. I think it's awesome that you want to ask him to marry you regardless of what tradition says.

You should think about things that are important to him and his life. The best proposals I have heard about are really personal. For example I have a thing with throwing pennies and making a wish into a fountain, so my husband proposed to me right after I had made a wish.

But I mean, do you spend a lot of your time just hanging out? Do you like to go out to nice dinners? Think about things that he loves and that you both love doing together, and go from there. If you want to do something a little romantic for Halloween, you can always convince him to dress up like a famous married couple and take that as your cue. The cheesiest example would be Cinderella and Prince Charming and to feed him a line about how he's made your fairy tale come true and you want your happy ending to be a marriage to him. I know that's sappy but still, I'm sure you can think of something by then.

As for all those people who think he's not being a real man or that you "deserve" to be proposed to - I think you deserve to be happy, and if you want to do the proposing then that's fantastic and you should. Good luck!!

I'd just like to say, that I'm sure that the man you want to spend the rest of your life with is a great guy. With that said, I would like you to reconsider proposing to him. You as a lady, deserve to be treated like a lady. And there are a few times in our life where it really stands out and is important such as turning 16, getting your period, having a child, or getting married. Getting proposed to was one of the most special and wonderful day of my life. And I would hate for that to be taken away from you or from anyone!

If this gentleman really loves you he will propose. And I think it is his responsibility to go find the ring and buy the ring. It's a "Coming of Age" for men. You shouldn't take that away from him!

My advice to you, is that you talk to him about your feelings of wanting to take the relationship to the next level. Throw the ball into his court. Encourage him and also give him plenty of hints! If he feels the same way about you, he will propose in no time!
