Yes, I have seen this occur.
The best hope for the little man is running. Not coincidentally, the best hope for big man is also running. Self-defense, the study of how to prevent others from harming ourselves, should never be confused with fighting. One's goal in any self-defense situation must be to end the encounter as quickly as possible. Most often, running will accomplish this most effectively. If physical contact is neccesary, it is best to use techniques that distract or hinder the assailant, providing and opportunity for escape.
Fighting is an entirely different breed of animal. Fights are dangerous and unpredictable. Either or both combatants stand a good chance of sustaining serious injury once the fight actually commences. A primary goal of effective self-defense is not letting confrontations escalate into fights.
...or as my old sensei put it, "The best way to avoid any attack is to not be there when it happens."

No.
My son (age 11 - 65 lbs.) fights an 18 year old (6'3" 220+lbs.) and it's an even match. He's small enough to get inside big guys defences. The proper distance for each fighter is different. If the small guy can get close to the big guy then his striking distance will let him land hard blows while the big guy won't be abl to get any solid punches in. It takes alot of guts to get in close to someone who towers over you. I've only ever seen black belts do it.
Little guy CAN beat big guy, but not because of a stun punch.

If you are trained in martial arts, fighting a big bad man with no martial arts training will be no problem for you.
But fighting a big bad man with just enough martial arts training (let's say, almost the same as your skill level) can be a problem.
Take these samples:
Royce Gracie is a great fighter. But his fight with a much bigger (and equally skilled) opponent, Sakuraba ended in a horrible loss for the Brazilian hero. Sakuraba is also a great fighter. But he lost humiliatingly to a much bigger and more conditioned opponent, Wanderlei Silva.
I hate to break it folks.. but size and conditioning does matter. A lot. I guess if faced with no other option, the poor little guy can engage in a fight and win. But in a match between two equally skilled fighter/tacticians, every advantage can and will be used against you.
The only little man I know who can constantly beat up big overweight men is Ray Mysterio hehehe!

No, learning the mans weakness is the best, A good punch can knock a man out or stun him, but a well placed thought out punch will cold cock that Mo Fo.

Nope. I watched an ex-Navy Seal bring a big man to his knees one night in a bar when the bully threw a punch and the seal caught his thumb as the fist went by. Not much of a fight, but it was gratifying to see this hulking thug beg.

Check out this reel of best UFC knock-outs of the past. You'll see a few smaller guys knocking out much larger fighters since back then UFC didn't have weight classes. Pay close attention to the 25 second and 33 second marks of the actual clip.

dear lord man. Get a grip. Watch some classic MMA. Jesus.. i feel sorry for you for not being aware of this. But seriously, look up gracie jiu jitsu. Watch Royce Gracie's early fights in UFC. He was always the way way waaaay smaller guy and whooped their asses because he was great at jiu jitsu and they were just big ugly bastards. Seriously check out his fights and then get yourself in a jiu jitsu class. You can take out unskilled bigger guys like they were children. I'm a big guy myself and I still know jiu jitsu and muay thai.. so it's really not the same problem for me. But I can tell you that my buddy Andrew who is like 175 pounds submits tons of bigger guys when we are screwing around at the frat's at our college because they don't know ****. That's the little guy's best hope.

size doesnt matter if the smaller man knows how to fight and the larger man doesnt. the ability to fight determines the winner, if the ground is equal the larger man has the advanteage just in size

Yes. Please check out the very first fight in the UFC. The sumo wrestler even looses a tooth. Also, any fight previous to this year with Royce Gracie.
