I have eaten watermelon my whole life. Now it is so bad that it is swelling my tounge and thoat up. Yes I quit eating it because I know allergic reactions escalate. I was just wondering if this was due to chemicals/fertalizers/GM.
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this????

I was allergic to watermelon the first 35 years of my life. After getting allergy desensitation shots for 5 years, my allergy went away. I did not have to even eat the melon to have a reaction. If I just got the juice on my skin, I would break out in a rash. Do you also have hayfever? I think it is related to ragweed allergy.

I've been having the same problem when I was younger I was able to eat watermelon and in the past 3 years I got allergic to any fruit that has a hard shell.I know pretty sad.lol.When I eat it, my throat get itchy and I start scratching. I was researching one day about it and they said that sometimes if you have other allergies it could cause you to develop some more. Like if you are allergic to ragweed this may lead you to become allergic to bananas or melons such as watermelon and cantaloupe. Or either one of your parents may have this allergy because sometimes it hereditary.I don't really think it the pesticides or other things they spray on it because I usually get organic fruits and they don't spray anything on them.

You may actually be allergic to the pestisides they are using on that particular fruit...I used to have the same problem...mine may have been a mental block, seriously, I thought I was allergic to everything but citrus, my throat got itchy and my tongue would swell...I can eat every fruit now, not sure why...try organic and see if it changes...

I had an allergy to watermelon about 1933. I outgrew my allergy although it showed on allergy tests.
