Has anyone told them they are illegal and can give the impression of being much further away than they actually are?

DRL -- Daytime Running Lights. Mandated by law in some jurisdictions, and all quite perfectly legal pretty much anywhere. Some systems use the headlights, and others use the fog lights. So I guess that the asker is the moron here, eh?

Never heard of any car manufacturer using fog lights as DRL's. I think they just turn them on to show off, I've never seen fog lights come on automatically, remain on because you "forgot" to shut them off. They're a switched option. Fog lights are much brighter than DRL's or headlights and usually are not aimed correctly, hence a safety hazard to other drivers and those MORONS should be fined, and have their fog lights popped with a hammer if caught running with them on with no fog.

Sorry RICK"S wrong again. Daytime running lights are not fog lights.I don't know about "all" states, but take off across Wyoming with fog lites burning,(if theres no fog or rain)and the State Patrol WILL ask for your autograph on the bottom of a citation.

daylight running lights and fog lights on during the day increase visibility to avoid collisions.

by all these clowns answering this questions with smart *** remarks, it proves that it works.

maybe some of these cars should turn them off so these clowns can cross the street without looking.

I've taken a survey of the idiots who actually have them on, and oddly they are mainly French cars. Odd. Maybe the switches are crap plastic that breaks easily so you use them once and they stay on forever!

Seriously though, I go for the "I need attention" answer. But the attention they receive is generally "Look at that moron!" :)

They are most probably the same morons that drive in the rain with their rear fogs on.

Are you sure they're not DRL's (Daytime Running LIghts)? They're actually required in some countries, and standard package deals on some vehicles. And it's not illegal to have your lights on during daylight. Anywhere.

Answer:
These drivers are neither leaders in free expression nor morons.
Statistically, you are less likely to have an accident if you drive with your headlights on. It's possible that these drivers are simply interested in avoiding accidents with some ignorant jerk off know-it-all.

Agree with rigger. I live in Ireland and drive with them on all the time, I have noticed that people see me quicker and it is much safer to drive wiyh lights on. Honestly how many people would notice a motorbike coming up the road if they didnt have their lights on?
