It means they want their hair that way...
i guess your interpretation is up to you...
they may have a hundred other reasons
for example cultural - many native americans wear long hair
or it could be they decided it was cool when they were 20 and haven't changed their mind.
Think about what short hair on older men is a sign of?
I mean hair grows, cutting it is an intervention - an action.
Why do it?

Mostly....like a creep....or heck, someone who just hasn't accepted the fact that they've aged. It can also be taken as a sign of immaturity, of unresolved issues, or instability.

It depends on who you are, to a degree. If you're an artist, a muscian or such, you're more likely to get away with it than the avg guy....BUT still, its less appealing to most women, and just looks 'fugly'. Esp if the guy is also balding. I'd never date a guy with a pony, it almost looks feminine.

My 70 yo dad has a pony tail as long as a......pony's tail. He's neither a creep nor artistic. He's just normal. Thought you might like to know, you shouldn't judge a book by its pony tail.
At first we thought he'd turned into a closet tranny or flipped his lid but, no, thankfully. It turned out to be a £5 bet with his mate to see who would go the longest without a hair cut. That was 5 years ago so, maybe he has flipped !!

Neither....it's just personal preference. I have an uncle who has long hair that he wears in a ponytail & he is neither a creep nor a "free spirited" artist type....he is however somewhat of a biker. Him & my aunt both actually, even though they do not look it.

Maybe it starts off that way, but old men with greasy grey ponytails definitely look creepy to me. Especially when they are bald at the front.

I find a way of looking like a creep. I don't find long haired guys attractive at all.

CREEP!
Can you even name five hot young stars with ponytails....in 2006?
Didn't think so.
So on older men, its a def no-no.

Horrible, and equally bad if left flowing over the shoulders like Peter Stringfellow. And they should forget wearing thongs too.

Ask Steven Seagal, he wore a ponytail and did they martial arts stuff in all his tough guy movies. Apparently he really is good at martial arts - so be polite! lol

If it's Sean Connery in Highlander ll, it's a way of looking uber-cool. But for anyone else, it's a way of looking like a tragic loser.
