also like to point out that it is, in my opinion, harder to not believe than it is to believe in God. If you don't believe there are a myriad of questions that are hard to fathom- how did this all come to be, why am I here etc. The sweet thing about believing in God is that you don't have to ponder these questions, you be nice and go to heaven, and when God awful things happen (no pun intended) in the name of one God or another you hear... 'God works in mysterious ways'
In Malta last year a woman of 56yrs walked into the church which she had been attending since birth- the metal crucifix above the door fell on her and killed her..... God works in mysterious ways indeed.
I feel sympathy for those who believe in God, I fear the answers are too frightening for them, I wish them well.
To answer your question; I struggle to grasp that others have faith because all of these faiths are exclusive, oppressive and violent.... and I find it hard to accept that a decent person (such as yourself )would want to be associated with such activities.

Human nature, I guess..... What I do think is that whether a person has a theological faith then no-one has the right to interfere with this. It is a private thing.
Those who attack people with a particular faith: those with faith who attack those of a different or no theological faith perpetuate the many thousands of years of wars and genocide.
Let's all get a life and live in peace. Or is that really a dumb thought.
At present, we don't seem to be part of any *Intelligent Design* Maybe Darwin was right that we are just another species whose genes are striving blindly to be the fittest to survive, like any other animal on this planet

True, everyone believes in "something" (even if its believing in NOT believing! lol)
But to whoever said theres blind faith in religion- there isnt blind faith in Islam. Theres scienific evidence to prove God exists.

The more pertinent question may be why do people have a lack of tolerance about the faiths of others? This yahoo answers thing has shown me a lot of hatred towards Islam..im disgusted at the total ignorance shown. People dont know anything about the religion but are striving to destroy it and its followers...you people all need to check out www.harunyahya.com

Look for a lot of people, it's really hard to believe in something there's no concrete evidence to justify. If there is an all-powerful divine being, maybe it's just hard to trust him when he won't show himself in a sure way? When we're little, we're told about Santa, the easter bunny, the toothfairy... and as we grow up, our parents decide to tell us none of that is real. It's almost like you've been betrayed. Maybe some people are just afraid to get that emotionally involved in something for their entire lives and then find out that that too was a myth?

Faith in Jesus Christ is how a person is saved. Faith in anyother will take you to hell. So what is your point.
Galatians 5:21 - Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Probably because they are appalled at the horrible murderous acts done in the name of religion.
Why do some people struggle to grasp that others don't have faith?

Atheists have common sense. Religous people believe blindly that God exists. They call it faith, I call it being easily led.

You have asked a really good question, reason being is that my husband says he doesn't believe, after going to all the lengths to learn about it so when your question came up i called him and here is what he said" ITS MY CHOICE"anyway I just think for the non believers its too much work for them and that they cannot see beyond that point.

People can have faith in things that they actually can see or touch or whatever.
People who are aetheists belive that there isnt a god because they cannot touch or see a god and thus it cant exist.
Other peoples belive in things they can see.

because most people are ignorant and growing just knowing their faith is right even though it could be wrong. Ignorance is the nature of humanity.
