Agnostic is for those who know there is a something out there, they are just not sure what. Like my ex boyfriend. He said he was agnostic because he didn't believe in religion, but he believed in the power of the mind and people's use of many powerful thoughts at one time like the collective on Star Trek. He went to Iraq. He's an engineer in the army. He said several time he heard over the walkie talkies that a sniper was around the corner as they built the walkways for the voters to be safe. He heard gunfire and then a "We got him." I told him that those were all the well wishes that people were collectively gifting him. He couldn't deny this because as I do, we believe in the collective unconscious and the power of the mind. So, craddle that concept a bit. Are you really athiest or agnostic?

I consider myself agnostic. I believe that we as people are unable to know anything about the metaphysical workings of our world or even if there are any. I also add the belief that after we die either all our questions are answered or we must live through another lifetime.
Side note to last answerer: You would be considered a deist, I think. You believe there is a higher power, but do not know what or who it is.

Question: Why are you an atheist?
Just as an FYI I was an atheist for a number of years myself for reasons that seem similar to yours.
However, at a certain point I felt an inner "calling" to come up higher and search for something beyond what materialist science had to offer as truth. This really had nothing to do with religion but it had to do with searching for my own spiritual identity.
Although I have found many answers along the way, I find that that the journey - one might call a sacred adventure - is ongoing and I don't believe it will ever stop.
This site had a lot of meaning for me, perhaps it might for you as well.

Agnosticism is the philosophical view that the (truth) values of certain claims—particularly theological claims regarding the existence of God, gods, or deities—are unknown, inherently unknowable, or incoherent, and therefore, (some agnostics may go as far to say) irrelevant to life. The term and the related agnostic were coined by Thomas Henry Huxley in 1869, and are also used to describe those who are unconvinced or noncommittal about the existence of deities as well as other matters of religion. The word agnostic comes from the Greek a (without) and gnosis (knowledge). Agnosticism is not to be confused with a view specifically opposing the doctrine of gnosis and Gnosticism—these are religious concepts that are not generally related to agnosticism.
Agnosticism is distinct from, but compatible with, atheism. It is also compatible with theism. This is because agnosticism is a view about knowledge concerning God, whereas theism and atheism are beliefs (or lack thereof) concerning God. For example, it is possible to believe in God but to believe that knowledge about God is not obtainable.
Agnostics may claim that it is not possible to have absolute or certain spiritual knowledge or, alternatively, that while certainty may be possible, they personally have no such knowledge. Agnosticism in both cases involves some form of skepticism towards religious statements. Some claim that there is nothing distinctive in being an agnostic because even theists do not claim to know God exists, only to believe it, and many even agree there is room for doubt; and atheists in the broader sense do not claim to know there is no God, only not to believe in one.

I choose to be agnostic myself. The word nostic litterally means knowledge. I believe that there is something out there that is worthy of praise... mother nature is what I call it.... maybe I'm pagan, but either way. Most agnostics believe that there is something out there that is god like but that it isn't the God of any religion. Hope that helped. Best wishes

An agnostic is someone who believes it is impossible to know whether there is a 'god' or is skeptical about the existence of 'god' but doesn't profess true atheism. You should educate yourself before you choose whether or not you're an atheist. Good luck.

Sweetie... I think you need to do a lot of reading before you make a firm decision about what your worldview is. You don't seem to fully grasp the concept of atheism, but that's just my own little observation.
An agnostic is one that believes that there is not enough evidence either way to know whether a deity exists or not. They are generally irreligious.

There is not a lot of difference between the two, they mean about the same thing. No need to be sorry, it’s a big world and there is plenty of room for both of our views.
If we respect each other’s right to believe what we want we will all be just fine.
I know how you feel I was an atheist too I was sick of all the religious nonsense about sin and hell, good people and bad.
I had given up on the whole idea when one day Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.
While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.
Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.
I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.
I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.
I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.
Your brother don

Those that believe that God and his nature are unknowable. These folks believe that God exists, but do not subscribe to any religion that worships God.
But if you go by your regular dictionary, you can use atheist and agnostic interchangably.

An agnostic person does not, without a doubt, believe God exists they also do not say that there definitely is no God. They are non~committal to either way.
