It is almost a prerequisite for someone to call themselves christian that they believ in the virgin birth of Mary. The origin of the Christ-child is a foundational issue in Christendom.

Christians (I am speaking from a Baptist point of view) believe that Mary was the mother of Jesus and was a virgin, but not that we should pray to her or that she was anything other than a woman. The fact that she was a virgin is crucial to Jesus being a sinless person, because sin is passed down through the seed of the father.

In answer to the person's comment about Mary's cousin conceiving, Elizabeth was a married woman, not a virgin, and God allowed her to have a baby after many years of infertility. It's not the same thing as Mary's situation at all.

Most Protestants believe that the Virgin Mary existed and that she is the mother of Jesus. However, most do not believe she remained a Virgin, some believe she had other children, and most Protestants do not believe she holds a special place with God.

I believed that Mary was still a virgin before she gave birth to Jesus. After birth, only fools would believed that mary is still a virgin. Mary was human and she needs a savior too. Besides she is not the mother of God.

If she's the mother of God, the benediction would be like this "In the name of the Father and of the Mother and of the Holy Spirit"

How come it is still In the Name of THE FATHER and of the SON and of the HOLY SPIRIT.

I'm not sure what you mean by your question. Yes, Christians believe that Mary was a virgin when she became pregnant with Jesus. She didn't remain a virgin and gave birth to 2 more sons and two daughters.

They believe but they don't pray to her; but I do know that if you're in a country like the Philippines, where the Virgin Mary has become kind of ingrained into the culture, most sects of Christianity there pray to her even if they're not Catholic.

She was a virgin only until the birth of Jesus, then Joseph and Mary had children together, Jesus had at least two half-sisters as the Bible mentions his sisters(plural). And yes, Mary was a vigin when Jesus was conceived, God transferred Jesus' life from heaven into the womb of Mary to be conceived as a human baby and be born a perfect human man equal to Adam before Adam sinned.

Of course we believe in the Virgin Mary, she is Jesus' Mother.
And Catholics do not worship the Virgin or other Saints. They pray to the Virgin for intercession.

Yes, we believe that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus.

I grew up Catholic and learned all the prayers they taught me for intercessory prayers, but now that I am a grown up, I realize how wrong that is.

When I pray, I pray to My Father God in the name of Jesus, because that is how Jesus said to pray. The Bible (God's Word) does not say to pray unto Him through another (ex: the virgin Mary, St. Peter...etc...)

When Jesus met with His disciples at the Sea of Galilee. He introduced to them a model prayer, The Lord's Prayer. If you disect every part of this prayer and really Really truly understand the meaning of each line, you'll see that all of our needs are covered in this prayer. I find that awesome!! Why would we need to use another to get our prayers answered from God? If we did, then Jesus would have instructed us to pray to the saints in order to get to God.. but that's not the case. Prayers to God isn't a "channel chain".

Sorry, I didn't mean to get off track.. but I felt I had to give a thorough explanation for my beliefs.
